Hello! New to the forum here.

I am looking to upgrade my clubs and here is the situation:

I played a good deal of golf from age 10 to 24. Tapered off from age 24 to
28. I am now 38 and have not played at all in 10 years. I was probably somewhere around a 8 handicap when at my best.

For some reason I have had the urge to play again and pulled out the clubs.
Titleist Tour model blades. I initially thought I would go to a newer set of cavity back irons to get max forgiveness. But at the range, I can still hit these blades decently well. (The driver is another story now.)

My question is: Do you think I should go to a all-out cavity back until I get on my feet again or stick with something closer to a pure blade since that is all I have ever known? I have been considering the Mizuno MP-57's. Any thoughts, theories, reccomendations would be appreciated.

I figure I will probably average playing 2 times a week in the good weather months.

Thanks.

If you hit your irons well, why not stick with what you have until you decide if you really are going to invest the time to get back to where you were when you quit . A shaft upgrade may be all you need and save a lot of money .

Its easy to spend the money only to have it sit if you're not sure whether your going to stick with it .

As for the Driver , alot of people are shortening their Drivers to gain more control without losing much distance. If I remember right, Tiger's is down to about 44". I cut mine down to 43 1/2 " and I hit a lot more fairways. I hit it between 260 and 285 depending on my swing for the day.

As for me , if I could get a handle on my pitch and chips, my handicap would drop dramatically !

Good luck.

I agree with rtbuckshot. If you are hitting the blades well enough, stick with them. However if you really want to get new clubs, get fitted and take a look at the MP-57, or even the 52's. Great thing about Mizuno is that you can "design your own set". You could have 57 for long irons, 52 for mid and 62 for scoring irons.

I just got my MP 52's on Thursday....and man I love the feel! Now I just need to spend time at the range and get my groove set! :)

If money isnt an issue try the Taylormade Tour Prefferds. With the KBS Tour shafts they feel softer than blades IMHO. They are also forgiving but you can still tell where you are hitting it. Good luck

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
