Hi guys!!

Im thinking of changing from my taylormade R7 irons (steel) in for some mizuno MX-200 irons! After reading reviews everyone is raving over them but unsure if they'll be suited to my handicap?? Some people say they are low handicapper club and others say mid handicaper!!?? I love the thought of the superb feel they are supposed to give but dont know if overall if its worth the change? Obviously i need to hit them first but just wanted some feedback of you guys if possible!!

Thanks

The MX-200 is designed for players in your handicap range, but can also be used by lower handicappers or higher. As for the question of whether or not they are worth the change, you're the only person that knows. I love the feel of Mizuno irons and liked the MX-200's a lot. They are probably not going to instantly get you down to an 8 handicap, but so much of golf is about confidence and if they make you feel more confident for whatever reason then you might get better with them. They do have a better 'feel' than the R7 irons, but you might find they are not quite as long. I have noticed that Taylor Made irons always seem to be a little longer than other manufacturer irons.

A few days ago i was reading a golf magazine and it put them rank number 1 in the catagory of 'Game Improver Irons' They had 5 out of 5 for LOOKS, FEEL, DISPERSION, and DISTANCE catagories with a 4.5 for forgiveness. These are definately in your game range, maybe even think about the MP52s. They have a thick sole and a thin top line and they look great. The mag says that the mx200s have 'the looks of a better player irons - yet with tonnes of forgiveness'
The MP52s have a CG that's deeper than any other MP iron - The MP irons were in the BETTER PLAYER catagory in the magazine

Those sound great but I haven't heard much about the Nike Slingshot iron set that I have. They are some great irons right there. very forgiving and the feel is just fantastic. I think you should try those out too because they are for mid-high handicappers. You don't even have to swing hard to hit it far! With most irons, the harder you swing, the farther the ball goes. but, with the slingshots, the easier you swing (to an extent), the farther it goes. I love my slingshots and I think you should give them a try.

Hi guys!!

I wouldn't. I rue the day I got rid of my R-7s; imho, they were quite possible one of the best irons ever produced. That's why pros like Paula Creamer still have them in their bag. I currently play Titliest AP-1s and Wilson CI-7s and neither can compare.

Hi guys!!

MX-200s are GI irons and anyone will be able to hit them pretty well. There is this perception by a lot of people that Mizunos are only for better players, but the fact is that Mizuno's MX line of irons are designed for high-handicappers who need a club that is forgiving and easy to hit well.

I say go for it, MX-200s will have the legendary Mizuno feel but also be very forgiving and easy to hit well.

Hi guys

I went range today to compare the mizuno mx-200 vs my taylormade and must admit they do feel good to hit!! The pro was trying to push me towards the mx-25's but i wasnt convinced!! Another thing which was mentioned was that because my irons are 2 degree upright the pro said id need to get the mx-200 checked reguarly due to them being forged(softer) and hence lose the alterations!! Any truth in that??

thanks

Forgot also to say that the R7's have a medium offset where mx-200's are progressive offset! What ever they both mean? I have a slight fade with my shots so would love some advice to enlighten me if possible!!

thanks again!!

Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. Being forged has nothing to do with softness, softness comes from the metal that is used. Forging has absolutely nothing to do with the softness of an iron.

Yes, but forged irons tend to fluctuate from their state loft and lie a little bit more than cast irons. I would recommend a check once or twice a year, just to make sure your irons are in optimal condition.

Also, I currently have r7 irons, and love them. They go everywhere I want them to, I would say they are more of a players iron than a GI club, as they are very workable and still decently forgiving. I think theyre like the new tour preferred irons. I'm going to get tour preferred, because my r7s are getting old, this will be my 3rd season on them.

Also, offset really has nothing to do with shot direction, whether it be left or right, it helps with getting the ball in the air. However there is usually more offset in draw biased or high handicapped clubs because most people that slice it also need more loft. I think here is where most people get the wrong thought of offset. It has nothing to do with left or right bias. It does not help you draw it any more.

Thanks for explaining that for me! i have no problem in get a high ball flight so think the mizunos are going to be a good option! I know people who have the tp version of the R7 but at the time i was off 18 so wanted more of a GI iron so thats why i went for the R7 steel! Now ive improved slightly was hoping the mizuno mx-200 might take me to next level with its performance!

Was told also to get mizuno to do the alterations to make them 2 degree upright as the have heads cast already 2 degree upright instead of letting a pro hammer them to pieces in their shop!! Is that right that mizuno would have the heads already set in 2 degree upright??

thanks

    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
    • Day 1 - 2025-12-20 Starting a new streak, of at least 1. With rain dumping for the next week in the north bay area, I'll be a lot of outdoor net work and maybe some putting. About 10 minutes of 7 iron work, focused on the usuals: weight transfer, keeping hands behind me. I'll have more time in the coming days for video review and maybe some Hack Motion.
