Some buddies are going on a camping/fishing/golfing trip to Lake Davis, CA in a couple weeks and I'm looking at options for the golf. Other than Grizzly Creek which is private, looks like the closest courses are:

Plumas Pines
Graeagle Meadows
Whitehawk Ranch

Does anyone have experience with any of those, and if so can you provide any reviews/recommendations?

Thanks,

- Bill

P.S. There's also a course in the area called Nakoma, but apparently they're undergoing an ownership change and are not currently accepting tee times.

You can't go wrong with any of the three you listed. I would play them in this order:

1. Plumas Pines
2. Whitehawk Ranch
3. Graeagle Meadows

I would advise against Nakoma at the moment as it isn't in the best of shape.

Enjoy the lake!!

I just wanted to chime in again to say I ended up going to Graeagle, and fell in love with it. Great rates, great people (Bob Klein is the head pro - super nice guy), great views, and not too tough of a course. I've gone back several times over the last couple years, including a buddy trip for my bachelor party. I highly recommend it. (http://playgraeagle.com)

The other reason I wanted to update this thread is that Nakoma has now reopened, and it is magnificent. My wife and I just got back from 3 days there. They have very reasonable stay and play packages - fall rates were $80-100 per person which includes the golf and lodging in a villa with private outdoor hot tub, marble bathroom, wifi and HBO, patio overlooking the 10th fairway, etc.) The golf course is very tough but manageable if you use the correct tees. The clubhouse was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is spectacular. Nakoma is 10 minutes from Graeagle but another 500 feet up, so the views are even more impressive. The entire staff from busboy to bartender to pro shop to grounds keepers were all extremely friendly and helpful. (http://nakomagolfresort.com/)

    • Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.
    • I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.

    • Day 6  (26 Jun 26) - Played 18 today in the Friday men's group shootout.  Would love to say it was an awesome round, but it wasn't  - had a tough day with the putter (especially on the front - short putts missing left or right or just short - just could not get a feel for the greens).
