My PW goes about 120, 9 iron goes 135ish, 8 iron goes 150ish, and my 7 and 6 both go about 150ish. What is up with this? Sometimes I can't even get my 6 iron to 120, but it doesn't feel like I am hitting it horribly.

How long have you been playing? It's not uncommon for this to happen, but it usually will happen more with your longer irons (5, 4, 3 irons).

How old are the clubs you're using? The first thing you could check is the lofts.

I'm a super newbie. I just bought some new to me (used) irons that are Callaway Big Bertha Fusions. I was wondering if the shaft was too soft, but I'm going to get the loft checked as you are the second person who has mentioned that.

have you had the lofts checked? they get bent out of whack sometimes. especially with forged irons. either that or you are delofting your irons
EDIT: sorry, looks like that was mentioned already

It's not the loft of the clubs but the loft of the clubs when you swing them...

you're most likely casting the club so that you deloft it.. usually people who cast lose distance at around the 5 or 6 iron (I know bc I used to cast my irons) and that's why the ball stops gaining distance as you hit longer irons... work on maintaining the angle in your hands and "hitting down" and the distances will come with that... good luck!

I'd bet a dollar that your lofts are fine. I had the same sort of thing when I started golf. My pw was 150+ "9 165+" "8 180 ish" "7 iron ~180" "6 iron ~180 " "5 iron ~180" etc... I used to sometimes hit my sand wedge 140 on a certain par three.

Am I super strong? No wicked swing flaw I had a pull hook that I hit will all my clubs and I delofted the crap out of everything. So really vertical swing plane, way over the top, really closed stance, super closed face with the right thumb on right side of the club for super release. Maybe you are doing some of these things.

I now hit an 8 155 and a pw 135, fortunately my yarages actually scale up like they are supposed to until I hit the three iron. Post your swing and it will be fairly obvious if you are doing something similar.

Forgot to mention this works because you can sort of get away with "smothering" lofted clubs but once you turn your six into a three iron it stops working. The real telltale sign of all this is that you'll find that you can hit your seven iron further then your five iron.

    • I have been on a roll in November. Today was a 77 (69.2/115, 6,050 yards) on a wet course with dew covered bumpy greens. Better greens and I might have shaved a few more strokes off the score.
    • So, it appears to me that everyone is bringing out some version of the zero-torque, or square to square, or torque balanced, putter.  What ever name you want to give it seems like everyone has one of these types of things in their line up now.  It reminds me of about 10 years ago, when everyone had to have a counter-balanced putter in their line-up.  Callaway Media | Videos, Podcasts, & Episodes | Golf Content The Official source for Callaway golf clubs, golf balls and gear.
