So I took my first lesson and my teacher had me change where I snap and roll my wrists in my swing. Now my left wrist is very sore. Obviously once I get a little warmed up it's a tad better. But still fairly painful. Is it common? My golf partner said I'm using muscles I haven't used before due to the change, but I don't recall there being muscles in my joint

any ideas?

I'm sure it's something that will go away after I actually do the swing more often. Thanks Lobster

yah i agree ... unless you have some mild miniscus damage you weren't aware of, or some similar carpal tunnel/arthritis condition you didnt mention, im betting you just worked some mucscles/tendons you haven't been and doing so with a realatively extensive/aggressive motion.

give it 2 weeks. and if it's not better go see a doctor you might have some lingering joint issues you need looked at. If you're fine then it was just soreness !

I experienced pain in my left wrist last year and after a couple of months of it went to an orthopedic surgeon who took x-rays and told me I had arthritis. The bad news is that there is no cure short of surgery. The good news is that playing golf won't make it worse and will probably slow down it getting worse.

hope it's not arthritis, i'm only 30 =P

I think it's just from a change in my swing and a lot of heavy lifting at work

I had a pain in my wrist when I had a bit of a "chopping" swing. It was caused by trying to overcome "blocking" my hands by snapping my wrist downward.

I fixed it when I managed to stop the "choppiing" motion and actually turn my wrists over with a rotation rather than a twist.

Your left wrist should be pretty firm in the swing. You should be able to put a splint on the back of your left wrist make a reasonable swing. If your wrist is bowing or chopping, it's not really the right motion and might cause the problems.

Check for a cupped left wrist at the top of your backswing, it could be the problem of your pain. Nice thing about getting that wrist flat, your shots will straighten out.
