I have played in the Seattle area two times, being from the plains of Colorado, and the wet green of Seattle seems a nice change! Also the muni I played at (Jackson Park in the shoreline area) was well taken care of, not immaculate but enjoyable to play. If you are in town on business there are some great inexpensive courses around the area.

I thought I read that Jackson Park was a dump... or maybe that was Jefferson Park... ahh I don't know I get both those courses confused.

I was just in town recently and played Washington National down in Auburn. Very nice course, a frikkin ton of sand (which I found often), but very nice. Played like crap but the round was still fun. I recommend the course if anyone is thinking about playing it. It's the UW's home course.

What is the golf weather like between November and early April there? Are there a lot of days where you can get rounds in, and practice? We are considering moving up there, and I obviously need to factor golf into the equation! I realize it rain's there, no need to remind me of that, however if you are an avid golfer, are you able to play in the winter months? (unlike here in Colorado)

For me NW golf is a 10 month season. I usually don't play much in December and January. The key to playing in the winter months is to buy some good raingear and waterproof shoes or boots, dress in layers and accept "lift clean and place."

Has anybody in the seattle area become a memeber of any of the private clubs? What are some of the best private clubs in the area for the money? Also if you haven't become a member of a private club, is there a public club that you can purchase yearly play-passes at that are worth it? I am moving to the area, and could sure use some advice on the topic.

Calvie,

I belong to a private club in the south sound. The choices in the greater Seatle area are enormous and with the current economy many private clubs are making attractive offers to join. If you are looking in the Tacoma area give me a shout and I can show you my course.

I worked at a private club in The suburbs of Seattle (Woodinville/Redmond) area. If you are living more towards up there it's a pretty good deal.

2 big putting greens
grass tees and mats
chipping/sand green (goes about 30 yards away)
Tee times every 10 minutes. Tuesday is women's day. Wednesday is men's day.
Mondays they have tournaments so the course is usually closed off from members (not that bad to be honest).
Good restaurant.

I think it's around 450 a month for premium membership. Associate (weekday golfing) is like 350. Full range benefits for all.

I know they were offering six months free dues plus free carts. Not sure now.

Anyways, there are plenty of great options. It all really depends on where you end up moving and how much you're willing to spend.

What was the name of it? Also did you ever do any of the one time summer pay and play as much as you'd like? It seems like this would be a great way to play more than one course... That is the area we are looking at currently.

    • The MTB Prime and Prime X had issues with the cover being too soft and getting cut too easily. They said it was more prevalent in the Prime than the Prime X which I found odd because that was the exact opposite of my experience.
    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
