Wow Ben, good stuff.

Not too into contemporary art myself, but I know how to appreciate it. My LACMA membership just expired recently and I didn't feel like renewing it... I'm sad. :(

Golf is my art. My club is the brush, the ball is my paint, and the course is my canvas.

But more seriously, photography is my creative medium. I started digital about a year ago, and am just getting into B&W; film photography now. My plan is to make my own darkroom once I get out of this apartment and into a house.

Awesome shots! I really like how you frame your portraits. Your landscapes are bitchin' too. I could see some of those shots in Time Magazine. What's up with the God statues? The lighting it unreal, how'd you get access to shoot those? I see you just came back from SoCal? I was at the Getty just yesterday. Only my second time! Its a shame. I've lived here all my life, watched as that place got built on the hill and only been twice. And, I've never been to The Villa...

Thanks.

Most of the statues were at the Getty Villa. Anyone can photograph there, as long as it isn't a travelling exhibition. When we went in June they had an Aztec exhibit which I would have LOVED to shoot, but wasn't allowed. Oh well. They do a good job of lighting the statues there, so it's just a matter of getting the right angle, and then intensifying the shadows and darks in post-processing.
I would really recommend going to the Getty Villa. I, personally, like it better than the Getty Centre. The Getty Villa has some really old stuff there. A few of the statues are from 4000-6000 B.C.

With the daylight ending early, I have time to spend on painting again. Here's my latest two. The North Shore sign is for my buddy whose family is from Hawaii, and the Seoul Ink piece is for the studio I got my tattoo at in Seoul...

Heck yeah! The smell of Krylon Ultra Flat Black is still one of my favorite smells! Those most certainly were some great times in my life. I still carry markers around with me for a little late night Downtown L.A. fun. ;) Southsider huh? You're gangster!

And absolutely. As of this painting season, I've discovered the benefits of "pro" paints, as my style has changed and I need better fading properties. Montana is three times as much as the cheapo Valspar stuff I was using, but, easily five times better, with TONS of color options! Its quite amazing how big the graffiti paint market is these days! And I'm quite lucky to have a great store, 33third.com local to me. Here's some of my latest...

    • Wordle 1,652 X/6* 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ ⬜🟩⬜🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 Yup - one of those Wordle moments….
    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
