Guys I'm in need of some help!

Ive been using Ping Tour-W wedges for the last 6 months and they just aren't working! I've lost all distance control, I'm getting no spin from them when i need it and i think the bounce is too high (especially on my 60* its a 7* bounce).

My old vokey spin mills performed so much better, however there is just something about the new spin mills that puts me off them, possibly a slight change in head shape? However ive not hit them, so are they as good or better to play than the older models?

Any other good wedges out there? (Price is no object!)

Also Im currently using a 52, 56, 60 set up but my PW is 46* so do you think maybe a 50, 54, 58 set up would be better?

I had low bounces on my old wedges and i dont think i ever should have changed to a higher bounce as i tend to slide under the ball with my wedges rather than hit down on them and take big divots. Am i correct in my thinking here?

Any help will be great guys

A low bounce wedge is more for the "slider" swing you state you have where as a high bounce wedge is for a "digger" that hits down on the ball. Also, the course conditions play a big part. A dryer, tighter course is better suited toward lower bounce, and a soft, "wet" course is better for a higher bounce.

My PW is 46 and I decided to go with 50,54,58 wedges in order to have consistant jumps in all my wedges. Also, all my wedges are low bounce since most courses in south texas are pretty firm. I've been thinking of a configuration in which I get rid of one club and add another 54 wedge with a higher bounce for softer turf/sand or for thick rough.....

I have ping tour-w wedges. I have a lot of them, in fact I have 50/12, 52/10, 54/10, 56/10, 58/10 and 60/8. You could say that I like them (although predominantly because they closely resemble the look and feel of my S58 irons, which I love). They seem more constructed to last, rather than for feel. I like that, I like the compromises they've made, like the look, and can get what I want out of them. I'm trimming strokes due to my improvement around the greens.

I'm not having any real problem putting spin on the ball. In fact I would say that my bigger concern since buying them (over the course of the last couple of months) is how aggressively the milled grooves cut my balls (I like a soft ball). They seem to have really sharp grooves, and perhaps sharper edges due to the stainless steel construction. Feel is medium, rather than high, with mis-hits perhaps not feeling as bad as they should.

It sounds like a swing/off-centre striking problem to me. You sound like you might be cutting under the ball rather than nipping it against the turf. Unless your course is absolutely rock hard you shouldn't need lower bounce - to give you an idea, I had a ball nestle in a slight dimple in a tree root, yesterday afternoon, I picked it up clean with my 58/10 and got backspin with a half swing.

I share your thoughts on the Ping Tour-W's, I've already given my 58/08 to my dad and ordered Clevelands in 55 and 59 to match my 51 gap wedge.

Performance, feel, versitility - all way better with the Cleveland DSG RTG's. Give them a try.

I had Vokey's before, they're a mean club too but i find the Clevelands more forgiving and nicer to chase the ball at the hole with

Clevelands are what I would buy, if I wasn't going to stick with the pings. I accept the compromises of the tour-w's. I actually quite like them. I like that they look and feel similar to my S58's, but I also like that I think they will last better (wear less) than other softer wedges.

And then the golfers have to answer… “I was really proud of myself when.. yada yada" Tyrell Hatton, 16th hole;  Following his reaction to his tee shot, after his first putt I thought his head was going to explode.  He’s kinda entertaining that way, I think he’s the top contender for ‘most likely to explode'
    • Update on my prediction!  Standing by it, regardless of my mangling of the divorce item in point #3. As to where we stand, Rory’s turnaround, wow.  His talent is undeniable, and as he puts it himself - he’s resilient.
    • Not sure what you’re referring to? Raising my hand on the Rory divorce point - I got that wrong, looks like they’ve reconciled, good for him.  And I’ll concede this undermines the third point in my analysis as to why he won’t win a Masters.   However, what other simple facts did I get wrong?
