Well I never thought I would be back at this game after such a long layoff. I played my last regular golf about 1988. I played with some friends about two months ago and can't shake the fever. I absolutely love it. Things have certainly changed alot since then and I have a million questions but I'll start with just a couple. I dug my old stuff out, and the bag, shoes went right in the garbage. I hit the driver ok for being off so long, yes it is real wood. I went to Dicks and tried out several and settled on a TM 07 Burner. My question is with my irons. I still have my Wilson 1200GE clubs. I would like to have something a little better but can't afford too much.

Looks like a great site with excellent info.

Find some used cavity back irons on ebay. You can get something for under $200 or so. If you're just getting into it about anything will do, you can always upgrade later. There's tons of options out there

Ping ISI's, Zings, G5's
Tommy Armour 845's 855's
Callaway Big Bertha's
King Cobra's

and many others

I've got an old set of ISI's that I keep around for some reason. they still hit the ball really well

The great thing about Taylor Made stuff is that since they release so many new products, their old ones become a lot cheaper for about the same quality. I have the older R7 irons that are a great learner's iron.

I guess my real question is are the $200 clubs better today than what I have?

I don't know about better but probably more forgiving because really old clubs don't have perimeter weighting which allows for a better ball flight/distance on an off center hit.
