So I have been getting out a lot and am really struggling with my drives. Excepts short Par3s that I use my irons. My short game is pretty good. My go to club is my 6.

I just can't get a quality string of drives going. I either top it, slice it, push it, or hook it... I hardly every hit it fat. I'm working on keeping my swing in plane.

When I get out to the driving range I can hit my 5 really good, but ,my driver and 3 wood have always given me fits. My usual warm up is 6 iron, 5 wood, driver, 9 iron, wedges, back to my 3 wood, driver, 5 wood. If I have any balls left over I tend to practice short chips.

Should I just go and use my driver for a session. I have heard that this can be good and bad. Any suggestions?

I never "just" use my driver. After 40 or 50 drivers, things go from bad to worse!

I have trouble maintaining a consistent swing. I play 14 holes (or a large bucket of balls) hitting everything absolutely perfect and then something changes and it takes me 20 minutes of working on swing fundamentals to get it fixed. Personally, when i'm struggling, I sit there hitting a wedge, or 8 iron. I almost always hit those well and (most importantly), I don't try to DO TOO MUCH with them. I just swing. I'm not trying to kill it, or draw it or whatever. If I hit 50 balls in a row with a nice smooth 8i swing, I can almost guarantee that my first driver swing will be smooth, pure, straight and long with a little draw. But if I hit 20 more drivers, I start thinking... hmmm... ok... now, a little harder this time... ok now lower and with a fade. And then I have to start all over.

One thing that has helped me hitting my driver and 5 wood is position in the stance. If i am hitting it poorly that is the first thing i play around with. Sometimes the ball position in the stance can be the cause of a hook or a slice. In many cases I have my driver too far back in my stance. Also i find it very helpful to slow my swing down. In many clases begin swinging very fast.

Hope that you get it figured it out

Thanks guys. I think that my biggest problem is that i think way too much... I tend to over think the drive and don't rely on my muscle memory.

I had an address issue that was causing my driver and woods shots off the tee to be bad (slice-city). Though I had my left heel lined up with the ball, I was placing my hands too far forward of center. As a result I was coming down at the ball and over-the-top, leading to the big slices.

Now at address I position my hands in the center of my stance with the club head slightly forward of center when addressing the ball, and my shots off the tee have been more consistent.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

Can you explain that fix a little more in detail. I think i might have my hands too far forward, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks,

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
