I recently bought a slightly used set of Titleist 755 irons for a great deal. I absolutely love the irons....when I hit them solid. I have been struggling some lately with mis hits and I hit a buddies set of Ping G2's today and the cavity backs felt much more forgiving than my 755s. Well, he jokingly said, "Man I'd trade you irons whenever you want to!" after he hit my forged 755s and hit them really solid. He is a great golfer and played a little college golf for a couple years.

What I am wondering is, would it be worth it if I went to the range a few times and played with the G2s and decided that I hit them better, would it be a smart decision on my part to even consider trading the irons? I think my irons may actually be worth a little more, but would it be worth it if I was more comfortable with the G2's?

Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I would say that it is worth trading if you hit the G2s better. However, I would suggest playing a couple rounds of golf with your friend while swapping clubs. That is honestly the only way to tell if you hit his irons better (and vice versa). You will hit balls from different lies, different angles, etc.

Go play with the G2's amd decide which ones you like best. If you feel you want to trade and yours are more valuable, ask him if he will add some cash or something. but if he does not want to, your still getting clubs you can hit better.

Ask your friend if you can swap for a month. I sometimes experience honeymoon periods with some clubs. After one month, your still hitting them well, then tell him its for keeps! I am sure he will be understanding of this.

I had a set of Ping G2 irons and they were very forgiving and easy to hit. Titleist 755's are geared for your handicap range (mid caps) but if the Pings work better for you than I say go for it. G2's came out in 2005 and the 755's in 2006 with the Titleists probably worth a bit more.

According to the pga value guide, your clubs are worth $40-$50 more than his. I like the idea of switching for a month. If you want to trade, maybe he could throw in a dozen of your favorite golf balls. You should be able to hit those 755's with your HC.

Dont trade them because over time they will make you a better ball striker which is way more important than hidding a couple of mishits.

Thanks for all the help. We play together basically everyday, so he shouldn't have a problem letting me try them out.

I really love the 755s, but I just keep mis hitting them on some shots and I can't figure out what the deal is. I'm sure its something I'm doing, but I just can't figure it out.

The 755s are still pretty new to me, so I think I'm going to hold on to them for a little bit longer, see if I can get better adjusted, and then go from there.

Total BS. What will make you a better ball striker is practice.

How long have you been playing with the 755's? I say give them some more time if they're fairly new to your bag.

The G2's are super easy to hit (I used to have them) but I didn't like the lack of feedback on bad shots. They all felt the same. After moving to a less forgiving blade my ball striking has improved dramatically and I've been shooting 3-4 shots lower. It took a lot of practice though, because I suffered from mishits until I figured out how to hit them properly. Don't change clubs just because you hit a few good shots.

It's also important to consider the length and lie of the Ping's. Make sure they'll fit you if you do decide to switch. Check out Ping's online fitment guide, which will give you a rough estimate.
