It's been awhile for me but I've got about 5 rounds under my belt and countless days just pitching in the yard. I'm looking for tips or something to help me get a swing tempo going. I seem to be too slow than too fast. Maybe I'm worring about it too much and it will come the more I play.

Your thoughts.....

and I know what some of you are thinking and yes....I am just an old white man with no rhythm.

when you throw a ball to a kid, or a rock at a stray cat, do you think about tempo? If you do I bet you won't hit that cat. Tempo happens. The golf swing is just like throwing a ball to a kid... it just happens. You are swinging a club to hit a ball to a target. If you are too fast, many time you are trying to hit it hard. If you are too slow, then you are too timid. Pick a target, and hit it there. The movement should be fluid, that's all.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

I'm going to agree and focus on one word... FLUID. The ball will just get in the way of a fluid swing.

actually, I just set this completely new swing thought that has been leading me to amazing ball striking the past week. ready for this?

put the ball over there

I just think, let me bump this ball up over there, almost like I'm tossing it. No hitting the ball, that gets me into trouble. For some reason, that's been smoothing out my tempo and keeping me relaxed. Also, in my preshot routine, I always set my tempo instead of testing my swing.

Also, you may be old, but could your club be coming past parallel at the top? It's really hard to set tempo if you're overturning. Check that too.

Good luck!

When my swing gets a little off, I only have one thought. I hit the ball like I'm trying to skip a rock with my right hand. That is the key to my whole swing. If I start to miss, I just skip a rock to the hole.

I think of hitting the golf ball with the same tempo and feel as a smooth forehand in tennis. Accelerate through the ball, shift your lower body weight to the left side (for a righty)

Good, for the most part I'll just quit worrying about it. Like I said I'm just getting back at it and it's coming back slowly.

By the way the old part was a joke, I'm only 54.

tourtempo.com You can buy the book(comes with cd). Or you can just download the tempo tracks. They have helped me. Just pop in some headphones and hit away.
