Of course, my examples were contrived and weak attempts at humor, but the idea is "step up." And then be natural and comfortable however it works out. Don't make a big deal out of either paying yourself or accepting generosity, and in either case, acknowledge in some way your gratitude that you got to play your girlfriend's dad's course.
