Wow, I want to play the kind of blades you do. That's a ridiculously big sweet spot. It's worth noting that neither of those irons you mentioned are "blades."

If I had to guess, I'd say it's more like the size of a green pea. A really forgiving blade might be a little bigger. Even that might be generous. I'd be surprised to hear of a game-improvement iron that has a sweet spot any larger than a penny, or maybe a nickel.

Think it's that small?? When I played the 735's it

seemed like anything hit in the middle of the face the size of a quarter was solid. I could be wrong, I went and traded the 735's for the AP1's because I am only playing 3 times a month this year and my ball striking has gone to hell without the regular practice and playing.

Thats technically correct, since there is only one point on the head directly in front of the c.g.

Game improvement irons just distribute the weight over a wider area, but there is still only one c.g., they just make the area where you get say 90% of the effect of hitting at the c.g. wider.

I think that's true of a lot of GI clubs as well (mine included, I've noticed) because of the mass of the hosel and a small portion of the shaft that is effectively "in" the clubhead. The sweet spot on my irons is definitely towards the hosel but if you hit it out on the toe you usually get pretty decent distance. Mine are just "game improvement" not "super game improvement" however.

Yeah, I was just pointing out that sweet spot is different for everyone. The only thing that isn't different is the CG.

For the sweet spot, for example, is it 95% effectiveness? 90%? 98%? And how do you measure effectiveness? Spin? Ball speed? Launch angle? Total distance? Different for everyone what they'd consider the "sweet spot."

arent the sweetspots on modern blades more in the center of the club face now? or am i mistaken? i know that with the older blades they tended to be more towards the heel, but i was under the impression that modern blade sweetspots are better centered. or am i wrong?
