Is it true that with the mizuno mx 200 or mp-52 you lose significant distance with your iron shots?

Where did you get that from?

On golf wrx some people report distance losses with forged/mizuno irons and many agree with them

If you swtich from blades to a more forgiving forged iron you may lose some yardage. Looking at the clubs you have, you will gain yardage, as I assume you are playing oversize clubs. Whoever wrote that must not be able to hit smaller forged heads and perhaps that is why they are losing yardage.

If you don't hit it in the middle you'll lose some distance.

That is a ball striking issue, not a brand or forged v cast issue. These people are ill-informed idiots.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

That is the point I was making, yes.

Actually, I believe you are all wrong - you will most likely lose a LITTLE distance, not a lot, from moving to cavity back/oversize irons to a player's iron because the lofts on player irons tend to be weaker. (Ex. PW on my Mizuno is 47*, on my previous set of Taylor Made OS2, my PW was a 45*.)

true, thats the only reason you may lose distance.unless you are a not so good striker of the golf ball.

Well i mean the mx-200 is what I was looking at and the pw is 45 degrees, identical lofts to comparable irons like the AP1 and Tour burner. I want the mizuno feel but I want equal distance to the AP1 which I have hit before. Are the mx 200s THE club?

they are both g.i irons so forgiveness should be about the same, and if the lofts are identical you should hit them the same distances

if your a 10 handicap why would u get a g.i. iron i'd suggest getting more of a players club like the r7 tp, ap2's, mp-57's, etc.

The problem most people dont take into consideration is sweet spot, you go from a GI iron which has the sweetspot of a, lets say Quater? to a players club like a mizuno or titleiest AP1-AP2 that has the sweet spot of a dime.

yeah, forged clubs will have proper lofts combined with a player who doesnt find the middle of the club will mean you lose distance.

some game improvement sets have pw that are 44, thats ridiculous, 9i loft should be 43-44, so its cheating on the behalf of the manufacturer to make you think you hit further with their irons, completely based on them cheating with the lofts.

Don't worry about distance with irons, worry about spacing, feel, and workability. You can always add wedges or hyrids on either end of the distance equation. One of the best amatuer players I have ever known hit his 9 iron from about 115 yards, but he could hit it in a trash can. No one cares what the number on the club is if you stiff the shot.

Yeah I do feel you there man being close to the age of you...but i'd say unless you hit your current set bad, i'd save up for more players' irons and get a job or something, it'd be more worth it in the end - something you could grow into.

    • 44 (9 over) Had a few pars, a few not pars. Played out of 2 traps. game would be much easier if my driver would go straight down the middle. But no, it wants to go right or left and never let me play out of the fairway.
    • Interesting 9 holes last night... Hole 1 - Sliced into the tree line and hit a tree on the approach where I ended up losing yardage. Hole 2 - took me 2 chips and 2 putts to get in the hole Hole 4 - rinsed my approach into the pond. With all that being said, I was +4 on those first 4 holes, but got locked in and played the final 5 holes at -1.   Ended up with a 39 (+3). Foolish game.
