About 2 weeks ago, I was late getting to the course so I had to catch up with my buddies just as they were teeing off on 6. I played from 6 around to 18 in 1 over par. They realized I was having a great round, so they decided to play 1 through 5 with me to see what was gonna happen.

I double bogied 1, 2, and 3. #4 is a short, but treacherous par 5 with lots of water and bunkers. I managed to get just off the green in 4, just trying to at least make bogie and stop the bleeding. Completely out of character, I skulled an easy chip across the green like a bullet. I was non-plussed. I just told my buds, "I'll see ya later." I left the ball, got in the cart and drove straight to the clubhouse, got in my car and drove away with the intent of throwing my clubs in the nearest dumpster.

Fortunately, I came to my senses before I came to a dumpster, so I didn't have to buy new clubs when I went to play the next afternoon. Arnold Palmer said something about not being able to play golf if you were easily embarrassed. Amen, brother.

I can say that Ive never been late to a round of golf but the other half of it Ive sort of had one of those days. When Im playing well, like being 1 or 2 over after twelve holes or so, I tend to grip the club a little tighter and stuff like that, because in my head I dont believe that I am that good, although Im having a good day. So therefore the bad shots start coming out and then all I want to do is make a bogey instead of thinking of making birdies. But that sucks though, its tough to show up late, not warm up and then play great. You can look at the positive side of it i guess.

I've had one of those days where everything went RIGHT, and no, I don't mean a fade or slice My drives were true, my long iron shots seemed to just jump off the face, short game worked, my rythm was great... everything I could wish for. Even my putting was better, eventhough it still sucked to some degree. I played 11 over, which was my best round ever.

Took Wednesday off to join a fourball, cause now I'm the Man Shot 18 over as usual. That feeling was GONE...

Well, being late was a relative term. Several of us who play almost every day try to meet at the course at around 4. Sometimes one or two of us arrives early and just starts playing. When the others show up, we just join on whatever hole they are on. Our course tends to get busy around 4:30 to 5:00 weekday afternoons, so this insures we will not be stuck behind a line of people trying to all tee off at once.

I havent had a day like that yet, but i'm pretty new to the game so I'm sure it will happen. In other things I've had days like that and the best thing to do is just put it aside and do something else... those days just stink on ice...

I've shot 77 and 97 on back to back days on the same course. Outside of my exes, golf is the most frustrating thing I ever loved.

I played a little par 3 course the other day and a large family was teeing off on the first hole. So I decided to start on 2 and I played 2 balls on each hole so I could sort of get 18 holes in).

Now I am a terrible player but I am getting better. My goal on the par 3 course used to be just to get away with playing bogey golf. As I have been getting better my new goal is no more than 9 over through 18 holes.

Anywho, I finish hole 9 with my goal in reach and then head over to to play one (twice). Over the green -> Flubbed chip -> Skulled chip -> Crappy chip -> Putt -> Putt -> Putt for a 7 over with one ball and 1 over with the other.

8, well 16 decent holes then a blow up on the last :(

i have a story that frustrates me beyond belief!!!!

i was playing with 3 friends on a private course at about 5 in the evening. I was having a normal round (i ended up shooting 39) but its not my round that gets to me...

We were just about to tee off on the fourth hole when a friend of ours shows up. Its 5:30ish on a private course on a weekday, so there's really nobody out there so we decide to let him join. here's where i get really angry with frusrtation and such...

The guy, a 3 handicap...pars the 4th hole and birdies 5 through 9...thats 5 under par after 6 holes...

now im sure any of us would be ESTATIC with this round....except for he LEAVES after the 9th...he could have easily broken the course record...EASILY...

i dont know but it made me want to cry...and i might have...but you dont know about that...

Yes, I've had days like that before. Last time it happened to me, was because I finally ran outta energy around the 14th hole. I was on the Range and the practice green for about an hour and a half before the round, then I walked the 18. I didn't have a very big lunch that day either, so I was hungry and fatigued by the 14th. It ticked me off quite a bit, because I shot a 39 front and a 49 back. Makings for a high 70's round turned into a high 80's (I also parred hole 10 to twist the dagger even more).

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
