Beware of club lengthening effects.

My daughter, who was fit for her Pings two years ago, needed her lie angles more upright and shafts lengthened 1/2" so they would fit her 2009 profile.

Arranged to have them shipped back to Ping, work done quickly, no problems. I actually called and talked to one of their customer service persons, who was very helpful, but assured me lengthening would be the way to go, vs. reshafting, and would notice no difference at all in performance.

She noticed as soon as she hit them when she got them back a much different sound to her irons, I've hit them and it is a strange sort of "thunk", and not real pretty. It is clearly related to the insert at the top of the shaft, and has affected the performance of the clubs.

Come the end of October will be sending them back to Ping for reshafting, and another set of grips.

Ping may take into consideration my conversation when it comes to the cost, may not, and I'm not putting this out there to really complain about that so much, as I am to relate this experience to others. From my perspective, based on this outcome, I'd recommend reshafting the first time and having one solid original shaft.

I researched the issue on some of the archives here and didn't really find any dissenters, before going through with it and as the clubs were being shipped out called Ping just to allay my nagging fear I should just have them reshafted(just didn't want them to come back and have a problem because she really can't be without them another week this summer). It's a distracting sound, the opposite of what you want to hear on a well struck shot, believe me. Should have gone with my instincts, but all available evidence suggested there would be no problem.
