She's gaining experience. And getting publicity, which Sony/Nike like.

If Nike wants publicity from someone who misses cuts on the PGA Tour, I'll take an exemption. I could last just as many holes as she could obviously. I'll wear whatever they want me to wear.

It's a dead argument really. I'm not a fan of it, and you obviously are. By the way, did anyone catch Jeff Gove's comments last night on Golf Central? He said Wie needs to learn how to play faster and that is was like a zoo out there. He was clearly frustrated with the situation, but then again, he shot a 74. That could explain the short answer. I got a laugh out of it though. That bug was giving her hell on one particular tee box. And how about that Zach Johnson? He continues to keep himself right in the middle of the Ryder Cup team. Actually, he might seal a spot with a win or high finish this weekend.

Now we're getting pretty silly. Are you an attractive young girl with an amazing golf game? In other words, you aren't as marketable as she is. You know this.

You can't make an argument dead by declaring it dead, especially when you falsely label me a fan of something. I'm not a fan (nor am I a non-fan, or whatever the opposite is). I'm simply looking at it from a realistic point of view: she is playing as many LPGA events as she can, she says playing PGA Tour events helps her because it's great training that makes LPGA courses seem easier, she has to fill her schedule some way, and John Deere gets a lot of extra exposure with a sponsor's invitation they can give to anyone they want.

That's all I've really said. Just facts. She's not doing anything distasteful (except when she speaks, and I have criticized her for those comments). So calling me "a fan"? No, that doesn't apply.

I hope he makes it. JJ Henry not so much...

...She obviously isn't making any money playing the John Deere Classic (minus all the endorsement crap as usual).

that adds up in a year to more than you and me combined will make in lifetime ?

C'mon Cody, where is that hate coming from. I haven't start playing golf until I was 30+, should I be pissed at her too? How about the easiest answer to the question why is she playing there - BECAUSE SHE CAN ! Why is everybody so hyped about it - is beyond me. If I got the sponsor exemption to a PGA event - do you REALLY think I'd turn it down, because as a 40 year old fat fart I should be playing sunday morning nassau at a muni track?

Michelle Wie's body beginning to break down at the age of 16 cannot be a good sign. I'll give her credit for playing through the pain (she's obviously hurting right now, finishing up the front nine in the 2nd round), but I think she (or her parents) need to call it a day before risking any real long-term injury.

Wie is getting pretty annoying now; I thought her comments were out of line when she said "I played really good, other than my penalty shots". No sh*t!! I wonder how positive a reaction she'll have when she actually wins a tournament. But, maybe her 16-year old mind keeps telling her to think and speak positive regardless of whether she stinks up the joint. And yes, she did stink up the joint. Would any of you cut a MALE PGA player any slack for shooting a 77?

Wie's comments equate to me saying I shot 98, but the seven penalties and 14 strokes cost me - besides that I played really awesome!

I'm with Brittany Lincicome on this -- if you can't beat Annika, you have no business wasting your time on the PGA Tour.

BTW, wasn't Brittany longer than Michelle at the HSBC?

Wie is currently at +6 (138)

Jeez, the more venom I hear being spouted towards this sixteen year old girl, the more I'm swayed into the pro-Wie camp.

Heat exhaustion happens to the best athletes in the world. I've actually experienced it... and if you call me a girl, so help me, there's gonna be some mollywhoppin' goin' on.

People give players like that slack all the time. It's called "not noticing."

And a whole lot of people gave David Duval a lot of slack while he was shooting 85s, so... yeah, they would. And he's a former #1.

Except, again, that the LPGA Tour

won't let her play . Why is that fact so hard to grasp?

Accordiing to webmd, heat exhaustion is this. Also, OSHA has something to say as well (see attachment). Also, what the heck does being a girl have to do with this? Pro football players get heat exhaustion during training camp (Korey Stringer died from this).

Well, if you wanna get down to the nuts and bolts, if we're talking Wie vs. Annika in majors this year and their actual finishes, then Wie finished ahead of Annika in two of the three majors so far this year.

And sure, Brittany was longer than Wie at the HSBC, but I'll take Wie's overall game over Lincicome's any day of the week. I do believe Bubba Watson's longer than Holmes, Villegas, and yes, Tiger... but it goes without saying who's got more game.

I can no longer hold my comments. I've been coming to this board for over a year now.

The problem is you man haters want it both ways. If Wie doesn't play well you say "She's just a little girl and she's playing against big bad men". If she makes the cut and sooner or later she's bound to put two rounds together to do just that, you'll say "See, she's the greatest woman golfer and can play with the bad men" I say all that is "bull" she has NO business out there and the John Deere has proved she is a quitter. When it all is given to her, it's smile and waves. When it starts to go bad and looks like she'll shoot a wad, "oh I'm sick!"
  iacas said:
That's because you're missing the point. It's not "missing the cut" that helps her. It's playing a PGA Tour course under competitive situations that helps her.

That's a silly statement. Wouldn't playing against women golfers accomplish the same thing? Try winning something she has a chance to win.

Duval has how many tour titles and is a British Open Champion. Wie has what?

The LPGA will let her play! All she has to do is QUALIFY like all the other players.

Right, because had you watched the telecast, you'd have seen something was wrong.

She plays against the women

as often as she is allowed . What's she supposed to do the other 45 weeks of the year?

Which makes it a whole lot more reasonable that people should be hard on Duval...

No, you're wrong. 100% wrong. She asked to be granted membership and was denied. She'd easily earn her card from the money she made from sponsor's exemptions last year. So, again, you're wrong.

I was playing today. Bet if she was -4 and making the cut, she'd tough it out.

Nonsense, Duval wasn't given anything to get where he was and owes you nothing on the way down.

Wie finished ahead of Annika? So she WON the US OPEN and Annika didn't? WTF???

Holy Crap, we've got some selective readers in here. In no WAY am I saying that Wie is a better golfer than Annika. I was merely responding to GoingfortheGreen's comment about Brittany Lincicome.

Read what I said again: "...if we're talking Wie vs. Annika in majors this year and their actual finishes, then Wie finished ahead of Annika in two of the three majors so far this year." That is cold, hard, empirical data. Kraft Nabisco: Wie: -8 Sorenstam: -2 McDonald's LPGA: Wie: -6 Sorenstam: -5 US Open: Sorenstam: Even (won in playoff) Wie: +2 Did I say that Wie beat Annika in the US Open? Where did you read that?

Please know what you're talking about before you pass judgement. She does not meet the minimum age requirement, and Commisioner Bivens is steadfast in her refusal to grant her a waiver. Thus, she can only compete in so many LPGA tournaments a year, as a non-LPGA member.

And because she's turned professional, it isn't like she can go play in all of the USGA amateur events anymore. So where does she play? Practice? She already does that. Futures Tour? The minimum age requirement there is 17. European LPGA? Same rules as the LPGA. Jesus, I started out anti-Wie, and now I feel like I'm defending my own daughter.

    • Day 11: Worked on putting with the metronome
    • I added to total today by hopping it in on the first hole for an eagle. A short par 4, I hit 4 wood to 110. With a little breeze in my face I hit a 50 degree gap wedge to 2 feet and watched it hop into the hole for an eagle 2!
    • Sounds good. Text me if you have any questions. You have a good setup, too, and so long as you can get good camera angles… you should be good. https://skillest.com/@iacas
    • Day 14 (September 18).  Morning practice, despite questionable weather (it's raining).   Worked on chipping at first, including run-ups with UW and PW;  I've noticed lately some of my near-GIRs are missing forward, with nothing but grass ahead of me, but 20-30 yards to the pin.  After a few misadventures putting those lately, I wanted to at least get a feeling for what a 30-yard chip shot that doesn't have the variance of my quarter lob wedge would feel like.  I still think "putt when you can putt" is right, but... I am less sure I have a 30 yard putt in me.  Range time also, of course, same routine as the past week or so (drill, 3-4 slow shots, etc).   Did not get to the putting green as it was starting to come down a bit more. Darn, it really is raining.  And I thought today would be a perfect day to play, seeing as how it's 9-18 and all.
    • I'm in the same boat.  I think the last team event I got really excited for was the 2019 Presidents' Cup.  When I first got into golf, the Ryder Cup was an event (one among many) I used to plan my schedule around to make sure I'm able to watch it.   I'm not sure I realized how close it was until I saw this thread pop up.
