Friday evening (after Gulbis had completed only 27 holes), Jeff and I emphatically said "yes" she would win her first tournament this weekend. It's in the podcast towards the end...

As I watch the final round, she leads by three on the seventh green with a makeable birdie putt.

Now she's tied with a short hitter. Mini-choke on her approach shot to the 17th. She should have a small advantage on the 18th against Mi Hyun Kim.

Gulbis seemed, just a little, to move into "protection" mode instead of "attack" mode like she started the day.

Definitely seems like she thought she had it in the bag -- can't forget that you have two par 5 finishing holes though, anything can happen. I'm really surprised Kim missed that putt on 18, hopefully Gulbis can pull it out, would be a boost for the LPGA if she got a W.

Jeff and I were wrong.

She had a wedge in her hand too many times and failed to birdie on the last several holes (and the playoff holes too).

I feel bad for her that she didn't get the win but she had plenty of chances to close it out. I feel even worse for her that she has to put up with her dad and his crap after this.

Couldn't make a putt down the stretch...gotta wonder about that funky technique, despite it's success earlier in the tourney.
