Been trying to get an SK Fiber Revolution Shaft here in the UK but impossible since there are no distributors and just too expensive to ship from USA. Would welcome ideas for an alternative based on the following information:
Handicap 12 Age 55 Playing 3-4 times week.
Swingspeed 86 mph with driver
Driver Taylor Made R5 Neutral with stiff tip TM shaft fitted in Regular
Trajectory Mid/High
Distance approx 250 yds
Bad shot is a pull

Cobra F Speed Driver
Cobra 3 wood
2 Hybrids 20 and 23 Deg.
Cleveleland Irons
Macgregor Fat lady swings putterSrixon balls

Not having to work so hard getting reasonable height. Present shaft really feels too firm, have been advised to go with something with less weight and a softer tip.

redvet,

That's a good reccomendation. What loft is your R5? I don't know much about SK Fiber's line, so I can't comment. However, there are many great shafts which should be available in the UK at a slightly higher price point. The Fujikura tour platform 26.3 is a soft tip shaft which will suit someone with your swing speed very well. It helps get the ball up in the air and suits a swinger wiht an early release very well. My best reccomendation is the Graphite designs YS-6. This is perhaps the most underrated shaft in golf today. It's inexpensive, stable, fits a wide variety of golfers, and performs superbly. It has a similar bend profile as the tour platform, it's easy to load, but is a bit more controllable if you ever feel like you want to step on the gas.

My R5 is 10.5 which I like and the information you have given me sounds good also. Have a contact with a Golfsmith account here in UK and the Graphite Design is in their stock but not that particular Fujikura. Friend of mine has a Cobra Driver with a Graphite Design in it and I will have a knock with that to see how it goes. Thanks again.

redvet,

Give it a try. However, be sure it's the real GD YS (blue shaft with a silver label. The made for Cobra designs I've seen on the new HS drivers have been a little loose. Glad I was able to get you started in the right direction. I'm not exaclty sure what's readily availible "over the pond," however if you've got any other questions post away and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Glas you made the point re Cobra shaft, it is not the blue, its in Cobra livery just saying GD Ys6 so I won't read too much into the results. The custom club and shaft business is not as advanced as it is with you but can get most of the popular shafts of the main manufacturers. Some are just impossible, like SK Fiber, I am told a reseller would have to take large stock and guess its a bit risky in this market at present. However I can get GD YS6+ from Golfsmith here in the UK. I will keep you posted re progresss, thanks again.
