I can upload a video if you guys want, but it's not the greatest quality as you can see - it's from my phone.

Here's a quick image that illustrates one of the things I've seen:

Your hips don't go forward at all. Your weight is way back at impact. And even at the end of your follow-through.

Lemme guess: baseball player? You're downswing has the right toe turning inward and the weight going backwards.

Notice that Hogan bends his left knee quite a bit, but his weight is not out in front of the left knee. He's sort of 'pushing back' into his right hip, then driving forward. You're doing the opposite: your left knee bends in and your weight goes forward, then on the downswing, your weight goes backward. If I had to guess, you're wondering why there's this 'inexplicable' lack of distance despite the fact that you're swinging pretty hard and making decent contact?

My basic recommendation would be to try to keep your lower body quiet. Don't suddenly try to get your hips/weight through; you already have too much motion as it is. Your hand action and lag looks good - you'll generate speed and power just fine once your weight and stance are properly aligned to use it. Let the 'pop' of the contact with the ball surprise you.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

No problem with distance, I'm a big hitter but I have a slice... I have a feeling I probably swing to hard, though I swing at around 80%. And good guess on me being a baseball player. ;) I played baseball my entire life until about 4 years ago when I didn't make the baseball team in my sophomore year of high school.

I feel like the second image on the bottom row is awful... doesn't it just look bad? It looks like I'm crunched up too much.

Are there any more frame by frame pics of swings from pros out there?

Im a former baseball player too (through college), and i used to to the exact same thing youre doing - hanging back on the back leg. We're taught to turn and pivot off the back foot in baseball, but in golf you have to do the opposite.

You can load on the way back similar to what your used to, but you have to get rid of it by the time your arms move back into the hitting zone. Its a tough instinct to fight and youre going to have to exagerate the sensation of getting on that front foot until it becomes more natural. Something i used to is to do is take a normal backswing back without a club, and then walk my right leg over my left. Its a gross over-exaggeration of the move, but thats the general idea what you want to do with the weight shift.

Besides that, your swing looks ok. Solid take-away and youre set good at the top. It looks as if your shoulders at address are a little open though, and youre flipping the club with your wrists through the hitting zone. (probably a result of hanging back) But thats for later, id work on getting off the back foot for now. Thats a real killer.

I think one of the drills Michael Breed mentioned on Monday might help you to learn to hit off your left leg and stop being so much behind the ball.

It's a drill where you practice hitting the ball off your left leg while your right leg is behind you with the knee bent and just your toe on the ground for a little balance but 100% of your weight is on your left leg.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
