I'm starting to post scores under 100 consistently. This is a marked improvement for my game as my last plateau was ~105. Staying in-bounds was my discovery there, and now I take 3 wood off the tee instead of driver unless things are wide open. OB kills everyone's scorecard.

I problem now is the approach shot from mid to long range. My irons below 8 are crap, but I can hit my 3 and 4 hybrid well off of the turf. When I'm 150-190 yards away I have no answer. Why can't I hit my 7-4 iron? I'm used to hitting "'down" on my 8 iron, but this doesn't work with my 7. I tee it up towards my front foot and move away from the ball slightly. Everything I do at the range doesn't change anything. I've tried a lot of guesses at the range, nothing produces a result. I always end up with a dribbler or a wild slice/hook.

I need help from square one. Any pointers for how I can move my way up there incrementally? I have this aversion for getting a hybrid lower than a 4. I need some confidence at this range.

I think you could start with moving your 7i ball position at address more towards the center of your stance.

I'm guessing by "dribbler" you mean something that you hit thin and just rolls on the ground... if thats the case, i'm pretty sure correcting ball position at address will help out a lot. 7 iron is imo a club you still want to imagine hitting "down" on and leaving a divot with.

But don't get down on yourself :) Congrats on cracking the 90's. The only thing harder than getting out of the 100's for me was getting down into the 70's.. so i think you might have smooth sailing ahead of you to get into the 80's!

I would definitely try fiddling with where you have the ball situated in your stance. If you are hitting your 3 and 4 hybrid well, it sounds like you are not too far from hitting your 4-7 irons.

Stay CLOSE to the ball scoot up next to it for your swing, Im telling you , you sound like me and its how I broke 100 consistently. I have about inch gap between my zipper and my hands , arms straight down. Give it a try at least. Anytime I find myself slicing or struggling with my irons I scoot closer and boom its fixed, you are probably standing with your long irons like a Wood at address , since you can hit your hybrids, I was the same way, I can destroy my 19 degree hybrid, but my 5 iron was complete crap. • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
