I actually did buy the book. I have read in the thread that each chapter should be fully understood before moving on to the next, so needless to say, I'm still stuck on chapter 1. I thought about skipping the first chapter and go into the stance and posture one as I think my grip is fairly good. My only issue with the grip is that I tend to choke the clubs a bit with both hands (bad habit for many years is hard to break). I've been trying to conciously loosen up the grip though.

Just move to chapter 2. If you feel comfortable with your grip you don't HAVE to take EVERYTHING from the book.

I am a very quick learner so I did not follow Hogan's advice about practicing each section for a week. I practiced each seaction for a couple days and moved on. You'll just have to see how you progress. I would not skip chapter 1, or any chapter for that matter. The grip is one of the most important parts of the swing IMO, my grip was pretty good before reading the book(learned it from a teacher) but I still gained a few good tidbits from the chapter about it in Hogan's book, mainly the part about which parts of the hand should form the pressure points of the grip.

I've read the book two more times since then and both times I picked up on something that I forgot or wasn't doing quite right. I really do think Hogan was correct in his thoughts that a person of average athletic ability can break 80 in 6 months if they dedicate the time to practice and to practice meaningfully. I have improved immensely and I never started taking my game seriously until the end of last summer. I was shooting 100 at the time.

I will read it from the start again starting tomorrow. I played a round on a Par 3 course yesterday and shot +13. Had a slight draw. I then went to the range and thing went south. I am now hooking the ball pretty bad with no control. I was trying to incorporate the changes recommended by the swingacademy.com review. I have no idea on what I'm going to do to fix this. Any thoughts?

Don't worry about it if it was only one range session, might just be a bad day for you, happens to everybody.

I would agree with you except for the fact that I never hit a hook. It worries me, caise I always had a baby fade and it turned to a mean hook. I need to tame the beast.

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
