It is beginning to look as though a new baseball hall will have to be created. The founding members would be Shoeless Joe Jackson, Pete Rose and Barry Bonds although cheating on your taxes and perjury is a different kind of gambling . Shoeless Joes descendents might resent the grouping though.

It will be a shame if Barry Bonds doesn't make it to the Hall of Fame. He was a Hall of Famer before the allegations even started. He and Ken Griffey Jr. were the two best baseball players on the planet in the 1990s.

Bonds has never once tested positive for steroid use, and until he does, leave the guy alone. If he isn't a Hall of Famer, then nobody in the history of baseball is. The same goes for Pete Rose. It's a sad shame he isn't in the Hall of Fame.

I think Pete should be in the Hall, but the fact that he isn't only strengthens the argument against Bonds.

"If a drug-using, tax-evading CHEATER isn't a Hall of Famer, nobody in the history of baseball is?" Cody, seriously, whatever you're smokin' there bud, bring it to the Newport Cup. I'll be shootin' 59, I can see it now! He's a disgrace to the game. I agree with DD on that one.

DD is right on. Shoeless was cleared of any wrong doing by a jury (there maybe some evidence that the trial was fixed, info from here ) but his stats in the WS show he played hard. Anyway, its asinine he's not in the HOF (I just had to use that word!!! ).

You are the one always moaning and groaning about people needing to use facts before assuming things. Now you are the one assuming. Don't be a hypocrite.

I'm not saying Bonds isn't guilty of these things because it's a possibility. However, I said leave the guy alone until proven otherwise. He has NEVER failed a steroid test, and he hasn't been indicted on tax evasion charges yet. Innocent until proven guilty? Yeah right. Not in the United States I suppose. It's pathetic.

its crazy... he may have past the babe but he'll never get into the hall... the writers will never vote him in, its a comination of the scandals and the fact that he is really bad with the press...

It will be a shame.

Then again, that tax evasion surely affected the way he played baseball, as does the way he handles the press. Baseball has turned into a joke because of the media, not because of the players and scandals. If Bonds tests positive for steroid use, I'll be the first guy to jump off his bandwagon. However, I've been on that bandwagon since his early days in Pittsburgh, and I'm not going to turn my back on him because of false (to this point) allegations.

I'm not a hypocrite. The only fact is that he hasn't been caught. He's the one who knows, and a few others. He hasn't been caught. That doesn't mean he didn't "do" anything illegal, morally wrong, etc.

I'm not saying Bonds isn't guilty of these things because it's a possibility. However, I said leave the guy alone until proven otherwise.

I'd go so far as to say it's more like a "certainty" than a "possibility." But hey, you've got yours and I've got mine. Opinions, that is.

I won't turn a blind eye to something as obvious as Bond's "bulking up" and the fact that he used substances you can't buy in a drug store on the corner to do it. Bonds, Canseco, McGwire, Caminiti, and countless others have managed to drastically soil baseball's reputation, right or wrong, and I resent him for that. If we had a controversy of this magnitude in golf, I might quit the game it's so bad. I blame Bonds for a big part of it, and I don't think he's been honest about any of it.
He has NEVER failed a steroid test, and he hasn't been indicted on tax evasion charges yet.

I don't even care about the tax evasion - that just speaks to the general character of the man.

As others have pointed out, his head is larger. His "trainers" have been arrested and indicted and so on. So he used something for which they didn't test? It still soils the integrity of the sport. I used to watch 200 baseball games per year. Two things have dropped that number to about, oh, three: 1) the Pirates ownership (frickin' morons) and 2) Bonds and the rest of the druggies. Whether or not Bonds did anything "illegal" or whether he'll get caught are thus beside the point for me. He's not been an honest, stand-up guy, and he's (and others) cost the sport some major rep points.

Thrash, don't you think the fact that his friend / trainer is willing to keep going to jail rather than testify, even after being granted immunity, looks awfully suspicious. Bonds is central to the grand jury inquiry, why would he rfuse to testify about Bonds unless his testimony would be damaging to Bonds?

It doesn't matter if he testified or not, people will still think Bonds is guilty of everything. If everything was proven 110% that Bonds was innocent, there would still be millions of people disagreeing with the verdict.

I agree that it does look suspicious, but yet again, it's not my job to say someone is guilty when it hasn't been proven in the court of law. I don't have any proof that he is guilty of anything, so how is it my right to say he is? You know what they say about people and assuming don't ya?
