Ok i use to use mx-23 mizuno irons and i just recently bought a set of titleist 965 mb's... i cant get use to the different lofts on all the clubs. is it possible ot bend my 695's to the same degrees as my mx-23's? all the 695's are about 3 degrees weaker than the mx 23's.

cantputt,

Yes, it is possible to bend the irons 3 degrees strong. However, for every degree you bend it strong, you will lose 1 degree of bounce. This will make clubs that are already designed to dig absolute trench makers. 1 degree, okay. 2 degrees, maybe if you're very shallow and consistent. 3 degrees, I'd say no for all but the most advanced ball strikers. There's also something else to consider. The design of the clubs are different. The 695MB's have a high center of gravity (low ball flight) and weaker lofts are needed to help get the ball up in the air and keep it there especially in the long irons. The MX-23's are perimeter weighted cavity backs with a low center of gravity and a high ball flight. Weak lofts would make them go straight up in the air and not far enough out. Different clubs for different purposes. Across the board, muscle back clubs tend to be weaker lofted and cavity back clubs tend to be stronger lofted. Get them out on the course for a couple of weeks and see what your distances and gaps are and bend only if neccessary.

What gas_can is saying is that the measured, static loft of a golf club does not always relate directly to the ball flight. Center of gravity (low or high) can affect the height of the shot.

Look at the 695CBs. They're two degrees stronger than the 695MBs, but they launch at roughly the same angle for the respective clubs, making mixing sets possible.

iacas,

Interestingly enough, this very topic came up today. Player wanted a mixed set of MB's and CB's. The order was called in and Titleist refused to mix them. They say that the lofts and bounce angles don't jive, so no "custom" combo sets allowed. Only one or the other. It took some serious subversion through the rep to finally get it done. Doesn't sound like Titleist believes they launch at the same angle.

Or they really don't like mixing sets, since they make 3-PW and 3-PW and nobody ever gets muscleback long irons and cavity back short irons.

gascan... there's a nice way to get around that issue... the only problem is you lose the business... www.golfsmith.com - in their custom club department you order irons individually... so just make up two orders... and you're set... they do exactly what Titleist does..

i have a question for cantputt. are the 695mbs hard to hit? cuz i've been looking at getting those but dont know whether i'm good enough or would be better served with more forgiveness. besides the lofts being weaker than you'd like whatd you think of them?

DDBowdoin,

I can do the same thing, but it's more difficult for me to do that, and involves extra shipping expenses, time, labor on both our parts. Titleist has always been very helpful and willing to accomodate customers and retailers in the past, but this a bit too much I know better than you for my tastes. Mizuno, on the other hand, is extremely helpful and allows retailers to individually order irons in any combination which helps me serve customers better.

besides the extra shipping costs how would it be any different... I customed ordered my 735cm's through Titleist (via a golf site) and it was the exact price per club as the Golfsmith option... I am just not sure who would build/ship faster... Titleist or Golfsmith

    • Thanks for the reply. I downloaded a software update and can now measure swing speed without a ball. Without a ball and with an all out effort, I can get over 100mph swing speed. But as soon as I put a ball in front of me, I tense up and the swing speed is back to low 90's. More work to be done!  I am also excited to tweak everything to see if I can improve smash factor.

    • Kind of reminds me of my first driver - a TM R580 at a whopping 400cc.  Still have one in the stable - and like to hit it on occasion.  Makes me wonder if the Mini-drivers of today are a testing ground to drivers of tomorrow of the powers that be opt to roll back driver head size in conjunction to the ball roll back to limit the overall distance.  I’ve not done a lot of research on shot distances between the mini and regular drivers, but figured there is some.  Will be something to follow as the mini-driver unfolds.
