I been golfing for about 8 years now the first two or three years a I played allot and got pretty decent (down to a 14 hdcp) I had good distance off the tee - good drives 270ish and my 7 iron was 160 yard club with a smooth swing. My Irons were Infiniti 922 tour (forged CB's)

Anyways I have my first kid 4 years ago and I end up playing way less golf, but I still play 10 or 15 rounds for work each year. After a few years of just showing for corporate best balls and the odd client round my game goes away and I decide to get some GI irons and buy Callaway X 20's with uniflex shaft. They were easy to hit but I found they changed my swing as I couldn't "go after it" is much. still i was getting good distance 155yard with 7 iron.

This year I am playing way more but for some reason I have lost two clubs of distance (135 with the 7 iron) any idea's on what is up?

Muscle memory. Your muscles forgot. Possibly your flexibility changed a little bit. You get rusty if you haven't played for awhile. I always hate my first round of golf at the beginning of the season for this reason. The good news is, the relearning process is much shorter than the learning process. Sometimes you might thrive in areas you didn't before because you might do something different (because you forgot exactly what you did in the past) and it works in your favor. It did for me the year I discovered more power that seemed to come out of thing air at the start of the season. Play more golf and see how it goes.

The problem is I am now 25 rounds into the season, and it still not coming back. I can hit striaght and high but I have this distance issue.

Are you compresing the ball? Are you taking divots? Which way do your divots point...and where do they start in relation to where the ball was before you hit it?

If you divots point to the left of your target, then you are cutting across the ball which will result in a high and weak shot...usually with some fade spin, but sometimes none. This is the most common mistake for most weekend golfers.

It sounds like you are de-lofting your club at impact. Are you cupping your lead wrist? Try setting up with your hands in front of the ball by leaning the shaft forward at address. It should promote a downward strike and pure contact. Check your clubface to see where you are making contact. If you aren't hitting it off the toe or heal then you are probably cupping the wrist and scooping the ball. You can also check ball flight...is it higher than it used to be?

This sounds like the issue as I am hitting super high (like so high that the ball falls straight down when it runs out of forward motion). Right now I am not taking a divot, but I am catching the ball very clean (is used to take a small divot behind the ball).

I have tried setting up with a bit of a forward press, still haven't solved it yet though. Th other thing I am trying is keep my left shoulder "low" through impact. Do you think moving my ball back in my stance might help to? Right now it about centre for mid irons

this would not be de-lofting. More like increasing the loft. If you de-lofted the club the ball would go lower with a more piercing trajectory.

Yes you are correct. But the concept of "cupping my hands" at impact makes perfect sense.

I am sure I even doing this with my driver as hit my 9.5* stiff flex driver HIGH and get about 5-10yards of roles and 230-240 of carry
