So basically, today is my year anniversary with golf (honestly, a year and a week or two)... and it's also my birthday.

I planned from the beginning to play seriously for 9 and goof off on the back. I felt sore... tired... it was 105 degrees and I was walking. Let's get started!

Slope of the course is 122 -- it's my home course -- and about 3300+ yards on the front.

I hit 7/9 GIR. I felt invincible. I only took myself out of one hole where a GIR was impossible. Definitely a sweet feeling.

Here's the catch.... I hit 20 freakin putts! Actually putting is the only thing keeping my score up nowadays... so it's fine. But I marked the holes.... I had exactly 4 putts more than I should have had. 4 putts that had absolutely so business taking up numbers on my scorecard. If you take that 4 off magically... I have a round of 36 -- even par..... My lofty, and pretty unrealistic goal set to myself last year when I started.

Anyway. It was fun. I enjoyed it. Definitely bittersweet. Definitely an awesome round.

Nice. Today I shot a 79, my first sub 80 round of the year, 2nd lifetime. Eagled a par 5, and only hit 27 putts but my driver failed me in an unbelievable way. On 5 holes my drives were less than 50 yards. I made bogey, par, bogey, bogey (off a tree 25 yards and in the adjacent fairway), and birdie. Those are drives that didn't even reach the fairway. Imagine if i could hit my driver...

    • You might want to try a can of Bar Keepers Friend. Yes, it is abrasive, so just wet a sponge and dab it on. It has oxalic acid (no bleach like "Comet" kitchen cleanser), and it works wonders on stainless steel and other metals. Try it on a small area first to see what happens.
    • Fair   My uneducated thought: the big miss is the penalty area. If you want to optimize score, missing into the bunker (likely 5) is better than missing right into the penalty (possible 6). With that, your strategy seems sound and if you hit a committed shot, you get a bunker 5% of the time, take your medicine and hopefully get a putt for par but accept bogey. You may find yourself in a penalty situation 2-3% of the time and accept the associated outcome. The vast majority of the time though you are giving yourself a good approach shot into the green.
    • I walk 30 mins a day on my lunch break. It is not very intense (since i dont want to get sweaty in my work clothes), so just a touch above leisurely. 3 days a week I walk on the treadmill for 60 mins. I alternate the incline from 4 to 10 for a couple minutes, once every ten minutes. I lift my kettlebells nearly everyday. I have a couple complex routines. I find just 15 minutes and my heart rates is elevated
