Anybody up for a round this Saturday?

30 year old guy looking to meet some new golfers. I am around a 10 handicap & trying to get better. Happy to play with any ability golfers. I would consider myself a competitive golfer that is trying hard to improve. I don't throw fits/clubs if I miss a shot.

I am willing to play anywhere in the metro that is in the $60 or less range. I do have the MN Golf card. So if that worked out we could get 1/2 off depending on where we play. http://www.minnesotagolfcard.com/googlemap.php

Courses I have played recently: Braemar, Hiawatha, Stonebrooke, etc.

good times,
Reid

I'm about 4-5 hours north of you... Moved out of the Cities four years ago. I see you've played Hiawatha- have you played Theodore Wirth? I'm curious if it is still in decent shape. The last time I played it was about ten years ago. It wasn't in great shape then, but I know the Minneapolis Park Board put some money into resurrecting their courses. I grew up playing Wirth and I love it, but I'm a much better golfer today than I was then, so I wonder if it holds the same challenge.
Good Luck!

Sounds like a plan. I get out every weekend so another time should work fine. I don't think I have made it to Willingers so that might be fun.

I am busy this upcoming weekend (playing in a scramble) but free the next. We can chat closer to then if you are free.

Dan - Not sure about Theodore Wirth. I haven't played it in a few years.

I grew up on the range though so I know most of the courses up there.

    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
