Greetings from the Garden State. Excited to be a new member here. I have a feeling that I'll visit this site quite frequently (perhaps more times than necessary....)

Thanks. I'm in Hudson County - and looking for a nearby course. I am beginning to think that Bergen County courses are my best bet.

there is not much in Bergen County... either very expensive private courses (like Ridgewood CC) or dog-track county courses.

I've membership at Skyview GC in Sparta. it's 45min drive, but the price is right Other than that - the Great Gorge Resort has 5 nice courses to choose from... pricey, but it's good to do something else once in a while. Other than that - Bowling Green in Milton is really nice, sometimes I play the Morris County courses, that are decent.

Hey there back at ya from NJ! I'm in Morris county and yes, the courses I've played so far are pretty decent (Pinch Brook and Flanders Valley W-B). How long have you been playing?

As you can see in my profile, I'm a beginner. I really began last year and went to golf camp last summer. Only played a handful of courses. Needless to say, I am itching to improve, so I'm looking for a reasonably close courses.

Is that the Great Gorge courses in NJ

?? Where the Playboy Club Hotel and Ski Resort used to be??? The reason I ask is I attended a sales meeting there way back in the mid-70's when the Playboy Hotel was still there. They had a golf course and I actually played it as part of a group. I had never picked up a club in my life and it was 35 years before I picked up another. Must have been a traumatic experience that I have blocked out... lol

Great Gorge resort started with Black Bear, Crystal Springs and Ballyowen. After few years they built Wild Turkey and just last year they purchased the Great Gorge courses you're referring to ( 27 holes ). They sure look to monopolize the area, I know for the fact that they bid several times for my home course too. It's kind of cool, for a 8K membership you get to play all these courses... 8K is just a bit out my reach though

How strange that this should come full circle. My only time to play golf before I took it up seriously and it comes up on a golf forum over 30 years later.....
(music from Twilight Zone playing in the background) LOL

    • Day 6: lighter session today after a long day. Just some mirror work and slow swings to try to get my feels down.
    • @Philip Belgium,  If I haven't already, Welcome to TST.  Your injury sounds serious and I hope you fully recover.   Thanks for sharing your story.  ..... each day get 1-2% better.   (A ray of sunshine and a positive outlook)
    • Day 91 (1  Aug 25) - Pre-tournament practice round today…had some great up and downs for par saves.  Rain came in this evening so it will be a totally different playing course tomorrow.
    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
