traded a buddy my old rac os2's for his hogans....

all i have to say is...

DANG!

these irons are the best ive ever hit.. ever. i tried to lay up on a par 5, i was 201 from the pin according to a rangefinder, pulled out a 5 iron and tried to hit it short of the green.. ended up hitting it completely pure and it landed in the fringe and rolled 10 ft from the hole. (yes.. i missed the eagle putt)

there is no greater feeling than flushing a forged iron. i hit 9 shots that felt absolutely brilliant (the rest were slightly off center but still very playable.. i only had 3 shots that werent to my liking.. but i topped them)... i used to think you mizuno guys were crazy when yall talked about your irons being buttery.. but now i understand.

i will never ever buy cast cavity backs again.. ever... im still replaying those beautiful "butter" shots over and over in my head....

playing again thursday.. we'll see if i still like them then...

this thread has no value as far as the board is concerned.. i just had to get this off my chest.. i love these muscle backs...

shot an 82 by the way.. best score of the summer...

That's awesome. Congrats on the good deal too. I spent this past weekend in Birmingham (AL) looking everywhere for a set of new Hogan Apex irons myself, with no luck. I did however finally hit some Mizuno irons and fell in love with the MP52 irons with the project X rifle shafts, talk about buttery smooth......
In the end, I ended up with an open box set of Taylormade R7's 4-AW for $199! I feel like I stole them

I have the '01 Apex+ and I haven'd found any other iron that would make me want to replace them (well, I loved the feel of the Mizuno mp67 and the McGregor pro-M but I know my swing not consistent enough to play them).
I found the Mizu mp62 to be roughly equivalent.

blades are def the way to go. some of the best shots ive hit with mine have been from bad spots where a nice recovery is needed. punch cuts and punch snappers are so much easier to make happen with a blade. Welcome to the blade side.

ive always heard people talk about how "hard" they are to play.

not true.. or at least not in my case. even when i hit it slightly off center they still went just about as far and perfectly straight. i did love the feedback i got from them, i knew instantly whether or not i hit it pure... i dig the reduced offset. i used to miss everything left with my old cavity backs. had to pretty much play a fade with them to hit it straight... thats not the case with the hogans, i can actually line up square and not be scared chitless about hitting the ball left... i can see my game improving tremendously with these irons if i keep practicing and playing with them... plus.. they're beautiful, and that's important right?? 6iron.. sent pm regarding the ballpark...

i've got a set of hogan apex blades myself, and i love them. i'm fairly chummy with the owner of a local public course, and he was out one evening turning on the sprinklers as i was taking like 20 shots at a par 3, and he looked in my bag as he went past. whenever i came down from the box, he said to me "dan, you got a bit of a sadistic streak in you?" he went on to talk about how hogan irons have had a reputation for damn near 40 years of being just simply the hardest clubs to hit on the market.

all the same, when you pure one, it's wonderful. i was playing the other weekend with some guys who work for that same previously mentioned course, and i was 150 out from the green. i pulled an 8 iron, pured it, and sailed the ball clear over the green. the carry on that shot had to be 155-160. the guys were like "damn! you're a gorilla. i guess you deserve those blades if you can hit them like that."

    • Starting over - missed posting yesterday and it had been less than 28 days since last off day….today was tempo drill day.  Worked on takeaway and moving smoothly into weight shift.
    • I know it is probably dependent on a lot of factors, but how windy does it have to be out before you need to start guessing on how much it would influence the break of your putt?  When I played at Bandon, it was like 25-30 mph winds. The caddies talked about the wind negating break. The only time I had it visually influence my putt was on hole 18 at Bandon Dunes. My missed my putt on the high side of a pretty severe breaking putt. The slope around the hole was in the 2-3 degree range. As the ball was about to come to a stop, the wind gusted and pushed the ball half a rotation into the cup.  The rest of the week I thought it had no influence at all. I was thinking, is it just over thinking to try to account for the wind?
    • Day 310 - 2025-08-06 Went downtown in the late afternoon and got nearly two hours of work in. Not a ton of breaks. Was blasting the TS at the end, from a HomePod and two TVs. 😄
    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
