I've had one for about 3 years now, nice way to track your game, and some tournaments require a USGA Handicap Index to gain entry.

I think Im too young to get one.

No such thing. If you can follow the rules of golf, you can get a handicap.

How do handicaps work in the USA?

Over here we use a slope rating system. See http://www.golf.co.nz

I find it an excellent system, my only issue is with the system of adjusting bad holes - here it adjusts to a net bogey, where I think a more realistic adjustment would be to a net double-bogey.

It's a great way to tack scores, and watch other people as well. We also book our tee-times through the site.

OK that looks pretty much like we use, except the allowing double bogeys etc.

The way it works here is that if you score more than a net bogey on any hole that score gets rounded down to net bogey for hanicap purposes.

You can only get the net double bogey if you are a 9 handicap or under though. It scales upward as the handicap increases. A 40 handicap, for example, can still card a 10 on any hole.

    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.

    • I'm halfway thru 11.22.63 and I'm really loving it. It's only eight episodes. It came out in 2016, but has found new life since Netflix got it recently. I hesitate to say it's good, but I'm really enjoying it. I hope it ends well.   I'm nine episodes into Death Note, and that's been great too, also on Netflix. It's free on YouTube. I feel like that's been a legitimate good story so far. Not sure how long YouTube leaves it up, but here's the series (37 episodes of like 20 minutes each).
