I started working on my swing again for a company golf tournament coming up mid September. I have a slight fade on my drives and wood shots. It's really nothing I couldn't adjust for but i would like them to be as straight as possible. Would closing the club face help? Any advice appreciated.

Closing the clubface would likely solve your problem, but it's not a long term solution.

If you're fading, your clubface is open at impact, that's about all there is to it. So, to fix the open clubface at impact, you can attempt to release the clubhead sooner or strengthen your grip to help you close the clubface sooner. Do your balls start off at your target, left of the target or right of the target and then fade?

I have the same problem. My ball will start left then go right slightly. It's nothing serious my ball still lands in the fairway but it does fade. I'm curious about this as well. I'm wondering if it will hurt me when I start to try to draw the ball.

I think it's great that you are getting ready now.

We'll have tournaments from work where guys just show up cold....no play for a year or so and then jump into their pairings.

This is fine, of course....as long as they are just out to have fun and socialize with their team and others. It sucks, however, when you get someone who just shows up cold and then gripes about every shot they make...ridiculously high expectations...etc.

Your putting in some work now will ensure some fun in September.

I couldn't begin to offer advice but only to say that I'd not worry if I was fading the ball consistently. I'd aim for it and trust it. Like the old saying, "You can talk to a fade, but a hook won't listen".

Good luck in your event.

Thanks for all of the responses. I'm getting ready to go out to the course here shortly. Im planning to hit at least three rounds today through Sunday (weather permitting). My short game is definitely where I need to focus the most. Hopefully I haven't completely lost my feel on the greens.

Good luck....I'm heading out in an hour or so myself for a practice round.

Feel and tempo...that seems to be the key for my ballstriking. I've gotta play smarter golf, too. Gonna play with some buddies on Monday(stoke play w/ all sorts of crossed up bets) and I want to be ready. One of them has always encouraged some competition when we play. He's a bit better than I am and usally scores two strokes better each nine. A couple of them are "swashbuckler" type players. I worked on my game independantly and "waxed" him on a tough local course by 6 strokes recently. Two weeks later we teed it up another local course that was much more to his liking...in spite of me driving the ball really well he beat me down badly....almost....naw... exactly like it was payback. Monday's round will be our next "match". He hits a solid tee ball that is very accurate and can absolutely game his 3&5woods. He putts well, too. He says he's hitting his new Taylor Made irons superbly....that is scary. I've got to play conservatively. There are a few holes on the course where I'll hit 3wood off the tee and play for the short grass....hit hybrids for approaches. I'm also going to throttle back with the driver and just swing smoothly at 80%....just keep it in the short stuff and play away from trouble. I'll gonna work strongly on my lag putting, too. I'll let him be tempted by dicey pin locations....I'm playing for the center of most greens and lagging tight and tapping in. I just want to play the course as it's presented and not put myself in situations where "hero" shots are needed. I'm such a sucker for risk/reward holes....such a sucker. I'm having so much fun gaming the ProV1 balls that I find myself thoughouly enjoying the situations that force me to work it around obstacles, etc. I'll let that passion and comfort level with recovery free me up and swing confidently but with a safer target in mind off every tee. Again, good luck. I have a blast playing with folks from work. We are in high pressure situations all too often on the job...it's fun to get away and blow off some steam...discuss the upcoming football season...have a couple cold brews....and wager small amounts for bragging rights back on the job. Hope you get good weather....ours is looking like high heat and rain.......

Check to see that you aren't turning your head to follow the ball as you strike it, as that may be causing you to open up a little bit. Ensure your body and momentum turns the head, and come out balanced in the follow through. I was pushing and fading for a while until I realized I was too eager to see where the ball was going after I hit it.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

I used to hit a slight fade with every single club in the bag. So, I took an 8-year break from golf and now I hit slight draws. So maybe some 5-6 years off-the-course, depending on the fade, could do the trick.

My Aerolite bag contains:

VR Tour Driver Project X 5.5
904F 17* 4-wood Sabre Stiff
MP68 3-PW Project X 6.0
52* Vokey Spin Milled -wedge

Redwood ZB

I prefer a ball, but may occasionally hit almost anything.

This has always been somewhat of a problem. I had it under control but ever since I started back it seems that I do it about 50% of the time.

I'm actually starting back after three years. For the most part I am striking much better. My swing feels smoother and much more balanced than i can remember it being.

Same here, apparently I somehow reconstructed my swing without hitting the ball once. The fact that I'm in a better shape physically certainly doesn't hurt either...

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
