Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some tips on the worst part of my game. At my home course the sand traps are filled with hard heavy and often wet river type sand. Next to impossible to get through the sand. Does anyone else have this condition? And have you figured it out?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Guys,

The best I can do is this:

I read this out of a golf digest and it does work: With hard sand: Place your weight over you front foot thoughout your swing, this helps with a steeper plane of attack and helps get under the ball. You have to commit to the shot 100% The opposite works for soft sand: weight over back foot, slightly uncomfortable but it works

I actually prefer a bit firmer damp sand. My club has very light, deep, fluffy sand and I've always struggled for consistency out of our bunkers. With the firmer sand, I've found that if your technique is fundamentally correct you can get a nice thump relatively close to the ball (as opposed to the explosion shot) and it's much easier to control the distance. Just my two cents...might want to be thankful unless your sand is extremely wet and heavy.

i need help also...
as of late i have been adding extra distance to my 5-Lw but my driver, 3 and 4 hybrid have started to become really difficult for my to get the ball in the air, im not topping it, its just sinking alot, the only thing i can do is to really soften my swing with these clubs, but then i lose yardage i used to have...
my lob wedge has added 15-20 yards consistantly, and my 5 iron has gained 10-15... its only the graphite shafted clubs im struggling with... my driver is a hibore xl stiff from cleveland, and i believe (without going to look) that my hybrids have a regular shaft...
should i look into getting a new stiffer shaft? or is there something im just not doing right? thanks for the help...

With out knowing more info, it sounds to me you are gaining yardage with your irons because your contact is better. Your shafts can have a heavy impact on yardage results however, The Hibore shaft should be plenty for you. I have these questions:

Do you swing you hybrids like a driver swing or an iron swing? What is your 150yd club? When you hit your hybrids and driver: Where is the contact? center, toe, heel Where does the ball go? straight, right, left How hard do you swing?

well what i do is when the bunkers here get wet in the monsoon is that i put my weight on thee front foot and hit behind the ball about an inch to be sure that my clunhead has enough room to enter the sand without hitting the ball . oh and try hitting with the leading edge with the face closed. u maybe surprisd withe spin u get.

my 3 hybrid feels more flat like a 5 wood does, the 4 more like a iron (i can still hit the 4 well enough, it feels noticably shorter too) 150 right now, is a tweener for me, 8 or 9 depending on how dry the course is... today it was a 9. the ball markings on my clubs tell me im hitting right in the center, if it misses its very slighty towards the toe, but high up on the driver. i have a natural draw with my clubs, but the driver goes a lot straighter than the rest (and tends to push left, im a lefty). the ball flight looks a lot like a major league sinker, lots of topspin, but not a hook, just a downward flight. i could hit alot harder if i wanted, but thats when i start fluctuating on contact.

With the 8 or 9 iron being your 150 club (very similar to me) you probably have a SS btween 95-105mph. With that being said, your driver should have plenty of shaft for you (with it being Stiff). Where do you place the ball in your stance? 3 things could help (possibly) with your driver.

1. Try lining the ball up with the heel of 'your' right foot (my left). If you are behind that spot it could be leading to your sinkning ball flight. 2. If I need to get the ball up a little, I get in my normal stance and simply drop my back foot back 1-2 inches 3. If you are swinging too hard, try taking a 90% swing With the hybrids: The reg shaft may be the cause of your ailments, but also try hitting your hybrids like your 8 iron. I have a 3 iron/hybrid, it is one of my favorite clubs. It took a while to hit like an iron, but once you get the hang of it, you will love it Hope I helped

I saw Lee Trevino on the golf channel once show how he taught ladies to get out of the sand by flicking their wrist just before impact and this allows the ladies to hit out of the sand trap.

Wet sand is played differently than soft sand and without an open club face. the club face should be square. practice and see what works for you at the beach with wet sand.

check your ball position and club face positions.

when teeing off, i set the ball at my right heel. ive noticed if i move my right foot slightly towards the ball, it promotes a bigger draw. when you say drop my back foot back do you mean move it to my left, or behind me?

thank you for your help...

Hi Guys,

This is simple... with hard sand you do not want the club digging into the sand like you do with soft sand because the clubs bounce (the flange on the bottom) will get in the way. So, you're better off with a low bounce club like a 58-60 degree wedge with 6 degrees or less bounce. You need to make a precise shot so keep your lower body quite. Setup with the ball about center with a slightly open stance to accommodate the fact that you will not have much hip turn. Above all, keep your balance, your eye on the ball, and a still head throughout your swing. Also, be sure to accelerate through impact or you're going to hit it fat.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I guess the easiest way to explain would be move your back foot back along the target line 1-2 inches (to the left) (making your stance wider not closer together) Keep the ball right where it is in your stance off your right heel should be good.
