OK, here's the scenario. Someone you are playing with (regular or paired-up stranger) is giving you unsolicited advice on a shot. Basically, they are telling you that you cannot make a certain shot (carry, cut, draw, flop, spin, etc.) and to take some smart, safe alternative. You didn't ask for advice and they're babbling on. So, to shut them up (and to make the shot you want to make), you load up and go for it and you nail it. I've done that a few times and man it feels good...AND it effectively shuts them up for the rest of the round.

Wow man if you can play off a 20 handicap you obviously don't need any advice! Good job

I admit that was a lucky shot. I didn't expect to make it, I just didn't like that guy telling me to lay up without knowing anything about me or my game.

I definitely need advice! I just don't like getting it from strangers who aren't hitting the ball any better than I am (and often are hitting it poorly).

My friend who is very good might tell me "you can get in a LOT of trouble here if you're offline, it's not that obvious from the tee." He will be implying that I should choke up and hit it shorter but straight. He won't TELL me that explicitly, but will just advise me of the problems I would be in if I hit long and offline (which I do quite a bit).

This is the kind of advice I like -- it's not advice, actually, it's *information* which will help me arrive at perhaps a different club selection, aiming point, etc. I don't like things such as "aim over there" or "use your hybrid". But something like "That fairway slopes down hard into the water hazard. Longer shots can get into trouble" is always appreciated.

Here is some graet advice for you. If you wanna stay at a 20 handicap for the rest of your life then keep doing what your doing. Don't take any advice and keep taking on those stupid shots. If you have no desire to improve then your doing exactly the right things.

I'm pretty sure what you ain't told us is how many balls you've dunked into the lake from a simular position. You need to lose your ego to be a good golfer, afterall its all about scoring. Who gives a F you can hit it 300 if you can't break 80, 90 or 100 Anyone can hit it long, but it takes something a little extra to be good at this game.

Ohhhhhhhhh SNAP!!! Better show this guy whats up Fat Slice... we need a posted video of you stuffing it close from 220...

Oh please, a 3-wood, 220? Chump change!!!!

God I love talking crap. On a serious note, I only give advice when I'm actually asked, which is not very often. I only expect advice when I ask for it.

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
