Thought I'd share something with you good folks. And, for all I know it might be silly to you guys, but it meant a lot to me. So anyways...

Yesterday I had played a very lousy front 9. In fact I think I should've kept score by how many balls I lost rather than actual strokes. Anyways, at the turn I got my cereal bar, and my water and as I stood eating it I just kept staring at the pin. It was then I entered some sort of a trance. Everything around me just blurred out of focus to the point I thought I could see the nylon fibers in the flag. The only thing my mind was telling me was GOOD BALL, GOOD BALL, GOOD BALL, and I could see an imaginary green arrow arching up and onto the fairway. Like a robot I walked up to the ball...I just kept seeing that green arrow in my head, I didn't thinka bout grip, where my shoulders were facing, the width of my stance, what I wanted for lunch, etc etc. The next thing I know my shoulder is under my chin, my body is uncoiling and I hear WHOOOOOOOSH---CRAAAAAAAAAAAACK. It was almost involuntary!

But here is where it gets crazy...I hadn't even stopped to admire my shot, I don't even remember if it was a little cut or a draw, or what, I just saw the first white flash of the first bounce in the fairway...then started imagining my next shot being a high wedge shot left of the pin...once again everthing blurred and that is all I saw. Shot didnt go left of pin, but almost went IN! Knocked it in for birdie (shortish par 4).

As I walk to the next whole, it feels like all i can hear is the blood rushing in my ears, and can only see this big PS3 Tigerwoods 10 green arrow magically appearing in real life from the tee as I get closer and closer.

Dogleg left, par 5....same as last time. All I could see was my ball doing what I wanted it to do...just walked up to the ball and hit it...the second it landed ...planned my next shot. 14 degree hybrid OVER the water, then two put. Birdie again!

For the first time in a long time, I went Birdie, Birdie. It was then I lost my focus and started pumping my first and rejoicing like a fool.

Next hole...pushed into woods, went waaaaaaaaaay long due to sudden release of adreanaline.

Anyways...I thought I'd share that because it was a darn good feeling to go birdie, birdie. I think I am finally getting my mind right for golf and finally playing it on a mental level, and not just mechanical. It was humbling to think I'd have to play EVERY hole like that to ever be 'good' at this. I love this game so much sometimes!

That is Zen...

A flute with no holes isn't a flute.....and a donut with no hole is a danish.

I find I hit some great shots when I'm focused on not being focused.

    • I love Rancho Park too!  I don't get out there much due to the 405 issues (Im in Santa Clarita) but I do try and get out there every now and then...last time out was in January where I eagled 17 (left green) with a holed 145 yard third shot ! Rancho is a great course! And at 24 bucks weekday with the city card, an absolute steal!
    • I have played PGA West, at least one or two courses in there, but I am not sure if I've played any of the courses used to host the Hope. I played a course that I think both isn't PGA West and is host to the Hope a few years ago, possibly at a TST outing, but I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the right one. I have played Rancho Park plenty of times (exactly half of my sub-80 rounds were there!) and Wilson/Harding.  Rancho Park might be my favorite golf course among those I've played more than a half dozen times.   Hopefully I'll get a chance to play TPC Scottsdale, maybe this August or September, and at some point I think there was a PGA Tour event in Las Vegas, I should get up there and play those course(s).
