I am going into my junior year in high school and i am an aspiring college golfer. Im looking for any advice on what tournaments to play in or any other ways to get my name noticed by college coaches. Im a 5 handicap right know but I have been improving a lot lately. Im looking to get that down to a 2 or 3 this fall. Thanks.

I am so bookmarking this thread lol. I'm going into my Sophomore year of High School and have been wondering the same thing. I just saw a presentation the other day thought about college sports and what it takes to get into a college sports team. I think the biggest help you can get towards that is from your high school golf team coach. Thats about all I know on the subject. I'm keeping an eye on this one. Thanks for putting it up.

The key is to play in National AJGA Events. College coaches look here and youll definitely get noticed there if you throw up some good numbers.

Both these guy's are right in that it would help if you have a coach or instructor give you an endorsement to the college you apply to, as well as playing in state/national events. We have a girl at our course, I believe from the U-Mass team and she said she made a video of her swing and a short bio and sent it to the college coach.

I guess the bottom line is, unless your tearing up the National Junior circuits, you have to do some work at getting recognized by the coaches if you want to be accepted at a highly ranked school!

Good Luck, and let us know how it goes!

Well I played college golf at a division 2 school and the best advice I can give you is to be realistic with your expectations. Play in as many AJGA tournaments as possible and send out emails/letters. The downside to this is don't waste your time with large division 1 schools if they want you they will find you. I'm not saying you couldn't walk on at a division one school but it's really tough. I always recommend to find a school you would like if you weren't playing golf. There are plenty of great division 2 and 3 schools that have solid golf teams. Now the biggest thing your grades a coaches recruit kids with good grades because they don't want to worry about academics. Good Luck...

Try to qualify for usga events getting into one is the best exposure you can get. Play in the AJGA but it is tough to get into event these days if you are not already established. Play well in your state level events. Pick a few schools you are interested in a believe you could play at, I'd say 5-10 and email the coaches. When you play well in events send them the scores.

Get yourself the big book of colleges and pick the ones you think you'd like to attend - heck, make a list of 40 or 50.

Get a letter of recommendation from your high school coach and, if possible, from the pro at your club/course. Put it in a PDF.

Make a short video of your swing and a variety of shots - not more than 2 or 3 minutes (no one wants to watch a 30 minute tape). Put the video into a format that can be e-mailed.

E-mail the letters of recommendation and the video, along with a short cover letter about why you're interested in the school, to the head golf coach and to any assistant coaches.

Sit back and let the offers come rolling in.
