My wife just give me the ok to buy a new Titleist driver. I'm not familiar with who the different models are made for. I know I need a stiff shaft but the head is what I'm confused about. I'm almost 50 years old but I can drive a ball 300 yards. I need a forgiving head so the ball lands where I want it to. .
Is Titleist coming out with a new driver in the near future? If they are I'll wait and buy the newest model.
Thanks for any advice that will help me decide.

generally..

titliest dcomp - most forgiving, highest trajectory, biggest 460cc head
titliest d2 - medium launch, standard 460 cc head
titliest d3 - low launch, 440 cc head

I didnt find any of them forgiving at all when compared to most other modern drivers.

If I'm not mistaken there's only about 2 degrees of launch difference between their highest launching model (DComp) and the lowest launching model (D3).

Titleist has a ton of stock shaft offerings so simply saying you need a stiff doesn't mean much. Different shafts are designed to have a different trajectory so you have to get what works for you. There also is no one standard for shaft stiffness, so getting a stiff from one company may be an x-stiff from another company.

If you ask me, it's a must that you go get fitted. Getting fitted is so easy with Titleist equipment with their new demo cart having all the shafts and heads interchangeable. I tried nearly all their shafts in about 45 minutes when I got fitted. Simply taking a guess or going by what people tell you to go with on a forum without them even seeing you swing isn't the route I would take.

Personally, i think the Callaway FT-9 is the best driver out there right now. And if the damn thing didnt cost like 600 bucks id would have bought one.. But as deronsizemore said, there really isnt too big of a difference between the way the 909 heads perform. I demoed both the D2 and D3 extensivley and didnt really see alot of variation. I ended up going with the D3 only because it reminded me the most of my trusty 905R driver. The shaft will probably mean more to than the head will.

Yes I agree the D3 with it's slighly smaller 440cc head just looks better to me, and I went with that, and I love it!

Then talk the wife into getting the AP2s and you'll be set right!!!

why did you switch from the 905r in the first place?

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
