I have the Mizuno MX-19 Iron set 4-PW. I play a 3 and 5 wood also. I was wondering if I should get a 3 hybrid or a 4 hybrid for the gap between the 5 wood and 4 iron, and if so what degree what be best?
Thanks.

The same degree of hybrid as your 5 wood should fill the gap because of the hybrids shorter shaft. 2 hybrid I'm thinking, maybe a 3 depending on the company.

I know it's probably not easy, but the best way would obviously be to take your 5W and 4i, and then take several hybrids with varying lofts and see what fits the gap the best.

Since that may not be possible, I'd say the following.

I've got a 5W, a 3h (20*), a 4h (23*), and then 5i and up. The 3h and the 5W go a similar distance for me from good lies; however, the 5W is nice when I'm on the first cut and the ball is sitting up a bit. And the 3h allows me to work out of nastier lies that a 5W might not be great for.

At least that was the case today (which was the first actual round I've played with the 5W, as I just recently added a 3W and 5W to the bag).

As far as loft is concerned, I've read where some people say that you should look at the loft of the iron you're trying to replace (in the case of a 3i, which is what you'd essentially be replacing, probably about 20*), and add about 3* or so of loft, as you often get about a club longer from a hybrid vs. a comparably lofted iron.

So, under that theory, you'd probably want to go with something between a 22* and a 24* hybrid if you are replacing a 20* iron.

However, if you look at this link ( http://www.golfsmith.com/ps/display_...sguide_hybrids ), it suggests going with a 20-21* hybrid to replace a 3i. . . for what it's worth.

I think NativeTXN said it better. If you want just a 3i replacement a 24* would likely be best. I see you already have a burner 18* so may be a 22*. As you know though trying several hybrids, if ya can, would be best. I hit my 18* hybrid as far as I did my 4+ 15* wood so who really knows.

Thanks for all the replies.
I am going to a store soon to try some out, I am going to look at the 24* hybrids I think and possibly lower degrees.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
