Blister

I've recently found my passion for the game again. I was a fair player some years ago with a handicap around 8 or 9 at one time. I took a few years off and now I've really gotten back into it and started to play much more and try to hit as many balls as i can to improve my game. My question is this:

Last weekend I was pressed for time on Sunday so instead of playing my usual round, I decided to go to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls and work on my fade. I've been hitting it really good, killing the ball, but I'm puling it and hitting a slight fade. I think I'm taking the club back too far to the outside and that's causing me to swing inside it and pull/fade the ball. Anyway, after a bucket I had a terrible blister on my left pointing finger. I use an overlapping grip and i wore a blister the size of a lid of an ink pin right on the top, last joint of my pointing finger.

Is my grip too tight? Is this a common problem? I've hit thousands of balls in my time but never had a blister, especially under a glove. Please tell me i just have soft dishwater hands from not playing any in the last years. lol

According to your handicap, you're a better golfer than I am, and I hate responding to "help" questions from better golfers, but...

It sounds like you just have soft hands. I've read stories of pros going to the range and hitting balls until they had too many blisters to play anymore.

Assuming you're a righty, there really shouldn't be a whole lot of grip pressure in the area where you got your blister. You're left hand should be most firm in your last two or three fingers so you might just try lightening the grip pressure on the finger with the blister, as well as the fingers of your right hand where the overlap is, and see where that goes. An old drill is to grip the club in your left hand between your last two or three fingers and the heel of your hand. You should be able to lift the club up, fairly comfortably with your left arm, with only those portions of your hand touching the club. If you can simulate this feeling with the full grip, and maintain fairly consistent pressure through the swing, then your dishwasher hands theory may be all your suffering from.
