Maybe. Tiger uses the Platinum (or a slight tweak to the Platinum) because he likes the extra spin.

Almost all of the premium balls (the $40/doz) are suited to people with higher swing speeds. Typically, the higher the swing speed, the less spin the golfer needs from the ball, but the PGA Tour sees about a 60/40 split on the "low vs. high" spin versions of balls from Titleist, Callaway, Nike, etc.

The thing with the golf balls you mention is that they are both higher-compression balls (about 100, I believe), meaning that to maximize the potential of the ball, you'll need a higher swing speed (in orderly to properly compress the core at impact). But that doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't play them. Play what you like.
