I am going on a short 4 man trip to Hilton Head Island the 2 weekend of October (1 week before my wedding, bachelor weekend!!). We are staying at a family friend's condo on the Sea Pines Ocean course. We'll probably play there a few times, but would like to explore more than just 1 course. Looking for up to 5 or 6 "must see" courses.
Anyone been down to Hilton Head before? What are some good courses down there? We are looking for courses that have nice design, but also are a good value and can be fun for games inherent to a 4 man trip.
Any recommendations would be great. There are just too many courses to choose from down there!!

Pick up the Hilton Head Golfers Guide when you get there... it is a 6x4 guide of all the courses in the area... but most importantly it typically has a 2 for 1 coupon for the ocean course.

Th best value on the island with fun courses is at Palmetto Dunes... Fazio course is my favorite of the three.

Also... Hilton Head National is a must play. There are a couple other courses right by Hilton Head National (I think Palmer & Watson designs) that have great rates and are great courses... their names escape me at the moment.

Palmetto Dunes has a nice course with a couple ocean front holes and very nice.

If you want a cheap fun morning of golf Old Carolina Golf Club in bluffton right of the island has 9 holes for $10 if you start early like 8 or 9 but does not have great greens.

my family used to have a time share for a week at palmetto dunes, and then the week after at Port Royal(i think thats what it was called). it was 15 years ago, but I loved the golf down there. Courses were beautiful. My parents bought a house about an hour north of Hilton Head at a course called Dataw Island. The courses just seem to be that much nicer in that area. sure wish i could find a job down there, I'd move in a heartbeat.

    • It isn't about maintaining focus 100% of the time when you are on the course. It is getting focus back for the shot at hand. Even PGA tour players will chat with their caddies or opponents about non-golf stuff, but then lock in. It is hard to try to constantly be 100% locked in for 4+ hours.  Totally normal thing to happen. You really only need a few moments of focus.  This is where a pre-shot routine helps. Maybe you need to add something that gets the focus back.  I just focus on every shot like a puzzle that needs solved. I like solving puzzle and problems. So, I try to be curious. Which then enhances focus. I think it lets me take each shot at hand. It lets me have the down time between shots. What I do is just get to the ball, and then start gathering information. Yardage, lie, wind, where is the pin at, etc.. Then I figure out what I want to do.  It's not like I can't shut off the thoughts and focus when I need to. I only need to focus for a few minutes before each shot.
