So, I got sucked in some time ago to the Taylormade promotion on their 09 Burner drivers that gave away a free burner fairway wood. The fairway wood that they gave away with the promotion has a 49 gram shaft, mine is stiff flex. I thought that was really light at the time, but thought I would give it a try. Any fairway woods that I have used in the past have been at least 65+grams.

Ok, so here is the problem. Every shot that I hit with this club has a slight fade to it. Cannot turn the ball over at all. I don't really have this issue with my driver or my other clubs. My question is, is this ultra light shaft just not as "stiff" as I need even though it is a stiff flex? Anyone else have similar issues? I am considering dumping this burner fairway wood and going with the r9 fairway, 70 gram stiff. Thanks

I like my shafts heavier. It's a mental thing for me. When the club feels heavier, I swing easier because it feels like the clubs are doing the work. A lighter club causes me to tense up and "guide" the club.

I use the Burner 3 metal and love it, it seems amazingly balanced, same with the 50g Burner Driver... effortless to swing. I would think less mass would allow "corrections" and controlled nuances, (workability), as opposed to trying to change the path of a greater mass; of course this could be a bad thing too. I think the only down side to Burners is that they are improvement class weapons and psychologically are a bit emasculating, but hey, some of us need game improvement clubs, and balls, and gloves, and shoes, and hats....
