I'm looking to replace my old Cobra 460SZ. It's got the stiff shaft on it, and when I buy a new driver, I'm going to get fitted to see if I still need one. I got the stiff shaft initially because I'm a big guy (6', maybe 260lbs) who swings hard, and I liked that it didn't flex. I'm not sure it's helping me much though; sometimes I fight a slice. I usually shoot in the 100-range, give or take, and I've been playing since 2004. I play maybe two dozen rounds a year (I'm in Chicago, we play 6 months/yr.)

Anyways, I'd like to keep it under $300 or so, and I'm plenty open to new (or newish) models from last year or whatever off eBay.

I was looking at the TM Tour Burner, since I have a TM Rescue that I love, and the Tour Burner is about $150 at my local Dick's. Also, I saw that the Callaway FT-9 was very highly rated, and while it's out of my price range, the FT-5 is supposed to be similar and much less expensive.

Anything else I should look at? I've got a Dick's right down the road, and a Golf Galaxy and a Golfsmith (though they tend to be about $50 more than Dick's) and obviously the aforementioned eBay.

If you fight a slice, take a look at the Cleveland Hibore XLS draw in a stiff shaft.
see reviews here http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9819 and here http://thesandtrap.com/clubs/clevela..._driver_review

I have the '07 TM Burner stiff shaft. I believe there is some draw bias built into it.

Even cheaper than the other two, nice. I'll definitely check that one out, thanks.

Looks to be a steal at Dick's Sporting Goods right now http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...LAID=154455123

Can get it cheaper used at some other places.

I got a TM tour burner just last week to replace my Nike SQ sumo. It is well worth a try at the current price. I got fitted for a regular shaft (all my other clubs including my previous driver are stiff shafts), it seems to play pretty stiff for a regular shaft. It has a nice solid and powerful sound and feel to it. I thought my nike driver was very good but the Tour Burner is certainly a better driver.

I bought the TM Tour Burner in the spring. Nice club. A few things about it: the shaft may be longer than your current driver.

I cut mine down 1" to help with the control and it has worked. Classic TM look, feel, and sound. Nice.

It also provides good feedback, heel, toe, sweetspot, etc. I've also noticed that it's hottest in the uppercenter part of the face.

However, when you catch it there it feels a bit different than it does in the exact middle and feels like maybe you didn't catch it just right, but those are the ones that go the longest for me, 260+.

Definitely worth a look for $150. I paid $169 and am happy with my choice. Happy Shopping.

I would definitely look at the tm 07 burner (not the tour model). It has a slight draw bias but won't stop your slice instantly, if you slice now you'll still slice with it. I would say if you are looking to improve and are really committed to it, get a regular driver and work on the swing, but if you just want to have fun and don't care as much a draw weighted driver should definitely hide the slice. It's up to you. Another great one is the Cleveland Hibore xls. Pretty forgiving as well. You really can't go wrong with anything out there right now. Just stay away from the tp and tour models etc. And regarding the stiff or regular shaft, how far do you usually hit your drives? If you're hitting them past 250 consistently then you should be fine with a stiff shaft. I have all stiff shafts and I hit my driver in the 275-300+ range and I love the stiff shaft. Again, it's all about what works for you and it doesn't matter what anyone else says.

Only on the range. Lotsa real good shots, a few hooks (what I was worried about with the Draw version) but almost no slices. And it's LOUD. Love it so far.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
