only irons. I received my MP-57's saturday and was not able to play or go to the range. I drove to the range this morning and it was locked up so I decided I'd go to a local muni and play 9. I only hit irons and shot +3. I'm extremely happy with the MP-57's. I love the feel of a well struck shot but I also like the fact that they will still rattle your hands if you miss one but won't punish you too terribly bad. As far as clubs go, they're also sexy as hell.

Nothin special but I was dialed in with my 52* wedge.

I guess I should have clarified that I used irons and a putter. Just no woods or hybrids.

congrats though this reminded me of the movie "Tin Cup" when McAvoy parred the backend with only a 7 iron, lol.

If you really choke on a sandwedge and skull it on purpose, you can putt quite well with it.

Bladed sand/lob wedge, forward press with a driver or 3-wood or running chip with a long iron for the long putts - there are ways to get around without a putter. When I was a kid, and later when i had a membership and could play more often, we used to play one club. A half decent player with some course knowledge can get around with bogeys using anything from a 5-wood to a 7 iron (more common now is likely 2 club or 3 club). It sure gives the grey matter a workout.

    • I’m glad the USGA booted some of the hecklers. It’s getting out of hand. I wish the networks wouldn’t mic the crowd to give those idiots a platform.
    • New member here, and I have decided to upgrade my clubs. I have been playing for a long time but these last 10 years I have had to put four kids through college. So I've played a few rounds a year and some years have not played at all. I am currently playing Titleist 716 AP2's with Rifle 6.5 steel shafts and Winn grips. I used to hit my 7 iron around 165 yds until just 5 years ago. I turned 62 this year and noticed I can barely get my 7 iron to 145 yds. I went for a fitting to try out some new player distance irons. I don't think I need game improvement irons because I'm pretty straight and rarely try to work a ball (if I'm working a ball, then I most definetely did something wrong to get there). I tried a bunch of irons (Callaway, Mizuno, PXG, Taylormade, Srixon, Ping, and Titleist) and I kept coming back to the Ping and Titleist. They just felt right and really looked good when lining up a shot. The Ping, by far, went the longest of all the irons. The Titleist was a close second in distance. Both felt buttery smooth through impact. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with these irons. I was getting 160 yds with a nice smooth swing (81 mph swing speed). I know I'm asking a lot of my clubs but my last fitting was 27 years ago and I ended up with some Cleveland TA3's or TA2's forged irons with Dynamic Gold S300 (swing speed 87 mph). I really love the feel of my AP2's and the place I'm going to purchase from is going to make a 7 iron in both Ping and Titleist for me to test on real grass. I'm pretty certain it's going to be either one. They're both identical in price for a set of 5-PW. I'm going to forego a 4 iron and get another 4 hybrid to go along with my 3 hybrid. Any and all replies are welcome.
    • Day 47, June 22.  After work today, I spent 20 minutes in my indoor practice room, hitting about as many balls.  Slow, as slow as I could, 6-iron swings, same priority piece as the past month.
    • Day 291 6-22 full, faster swings, focusing on low point, missing towel. Recorded some face on and dtl. Practicing full speed changes is something I wasn't doing enough.
    • Day 2 (22 Jun 26) - used the clip the tee drill today - focused on picking the tee and then collecting the divot.  Hit a few hard foam balls later in the session.
