I've been browsing (and searching) the forum all summer and I'd like to say first of all that this is a great site and it seems like everyone is very knowledgeable about golf. This very much reminds me of my other favorite forum, thegearpage.net for my other obsession, playing guitar.

Anyways, I just started playing golf this year and I've made huge strides. I regularly hit a couple of large buckets a day at the driving range to work on my game (of course getting out on the course is another thing altogether). I have been making great contact with my irons, Taylormade RAC OS2s, but I would like something less forgiving and more workeable, I I feel it will make me a better player in the long run despite any initial struggles.

I went to golf galaxy today and hit a Titleist 695 mb and 695 cb (6 irons) and I hit them both well. I realize that this would be a huge jump from the OS2's and that they are for low handicappers but I'm not too worried about that aspect at the moment. I like the look of the thin top line of the clubs at address and the feel of striking both of them at impact, they are both fantastic irons. I've read the 695mb review on the site and got a lot of great info it but would like to hear some comparisons between the muscle backs and the 695cb. What are the biggest differences between hitting the two? How much forgiveness is gained with the cavity backs over the muscle back irons, and what will the differences be in trajectory and distance? I hit my RAC OS2's 7 iron around 160-165 yards, give or take some, will I loose any distance in making the switch(distance is not what I care about, just trying to get an idea)?

Thank You

Derek

You could find that the Titleist irons will have slightly weaker lofts.

The original OS were strong lofted irons so there is no reason to think that the OS2's will be any different.

So that might affect your distance as in theory the Titleist wouldn't go as far.

Having said that, the OS2's are designed to help players get the ball in the air, so would have a slightly higher trajectory than the titleists which could effect the distance a little bit as well.

The best thing for you to do is go and try them out and see if you like them. While you're at it, try the Mizuno MP32 and MP60 as well.

i wouldnt go so far as to say they're for low handicappers. i play 690.cb's and i hit them better than i hit my old callaway x-14's which are supposedly game improvement clubs.

The OS2's certainly have a very high trajectory. I'm not worried about loosing too much distance, I'm looking forward to having that soft forged feel and letting my clubs tell me when I've hit a bad shot and reward me for hitting good ones.

Thanks guys.

Great site guys... I am sort of in the same boat, started a little over a year ago with RAC OS given to me then wanted to try other irons, got the Mizuno MX 23's loved them but getting board with it and wanting to try a "players" club. My local store let me take out both 695 MB's and CB's and also 735 CM's all 6 irons. I have hit the 695's in stores a couple dozen times and everytime they felt great. Big difference out in the range. I hit all 3 clubs together with my trusty Mizuno's and tried to replicate each swing with each club as much as I could. I really saw and understood what everybody is saying about the MB's. I sprayed my shots more with the 695 MB's than the other clubs I had with me. With this little testing, I have concluded that I may not be ready for MB's yet and will try the 695 CB's when I have saved enought for it.

To cut the long story short, I think that what feedback you get from an indoor testing facility such as golf galaxy may not translate accurately out on the course. Hope this helps.

I went to golf galaxy several times and hit some Mizuno MP60s, Mp32, Titleist 695mb, and 695cbs.

I settled on the 695cb and should be picking them up tomorrow. They fitted me for a half inch off the shaft and 1 degree flat. I have longer arms then average so that makes sense. I'm excited to get a hold of these and work the range a little bit before some Sunday golf. Hopefully getting fitted will help the end result.

I will say this, a well struck mp60 or mp32 does feel like a hot knife through butter. You can't take anything away from either of those clubs.

Well I picked up the clubs today. I have yet to play a round but I went to the range. I have to say, having your clubs fitted is 100% worth it. I was hitting 95% of my shots in the sweet spots. I had a couple of shots I sprayed but for the most part, I was hitting straight as an arrow. I only hit one shot fat which used to be a problem that happened pretty often(this was out of over 100 balls). I couldn't be happier with how the 695CBs performed today, I've never hit my irons so good. I thought that I would struggle initially but it has been quite the opposite, I hit the ball better than ever. These clubs have such a great, soft feel when struck.

You know how you have those days where you feel horrible when you come home from the range or from a round? Well today I left feeling estatic about my purchase. Good luck with getting a hold of some cyclistgolfer. Make sure you get them fitted too.

Should be getting my 695cb's in two days. Started a year ago (last October)with the enormous Ping Raptures. When I look at those clubs now I shudder at the enormity of the club face. Anyways I then switched to the Titleist 755's back in June. I absolutely love these clubs. Unfortunately for my bank account I hit my buddies 695cb's quite a few times the last three times we played together and fell in love with them. I ordered a set yesterday while we were on the course. :) I'll be posting my impressions after a couple of weeks of having them. The thing that most separates them from the 755's is that they are much softer to me and of course I love the less is more look of them.

How about a combo set of both mb and cb and you decide what your blades go up to.

for examply 6-pw could be mb
5-3 could be cb or maybe hybrids

Are you sure that you are ready for 695CB's if you are playing badly off a 19 handicap. I thought that the 695CB's were for high single digit golfers at best.

I don't even have a handicap and I've been using the 4, 6, 7, 8-Iron Titleist 695MBs in my bag for the last month.

Seem to be playing quite well with them too.

I would have to say that anybody who plays the 695mb's who isn't a scratch golfer is just making the game harder for themselves. I can imagine that maybe this doesn't apply to 1 or 2 people but are you really those 1 or 2 people.

Handicap isn't

only about how cleanly one can hit a golf-ball though.

You would be insane to go the MB's having just started playing this year... this discussion comes up over and over again on these boards.

Yes, a wildly over-active ego is also involved.

i started playing golf in may and i use mb's and pure the ball 98% of the time. but i also play 4 hours a day on the practice tee. but anyone can hit a muscle back if they want i think it will make your ball striking improve quick cause you have no room for error.
