Anyone play winter league in simulators?

I'm thinking of joining a winter league that is played indoors on simulators. I have used these before and been impressed at how accurate they are for the long game - not the short. Wedge shots and putting are useless and are really a formality to move the game along.

Advantages are that (1) I can keep my game up with some sort of play, (2) get more used to competitive golf (which is new to me), and (3) not freeze my backside off in mostly unplayable conditions.

Disadvantages are (1) no real practice on my short game, (2) no practice with variable lies and rough, (3) only real practice is on swing mechanics and mental game.

Is it worth it, or should I just try to get in some range time every 2-3 weeks when there is a break in the weather?

I'm trying to gauge opinions of folks that have done it, i.e., does it hurt or help your game. There is a fee to join the league so I want to make sure I am not wasting my money.

I hope it's not a waste of time since I joined one already. Who says you can't hit the range or play outdoors occasionally as well?

Do you know how I got primed for golf this past season (after only playing once or twice for few summers)? Wii (TW '09) and reading golf posts on TST.

I hear that's how all the Tour pros prepare.
