Hi guys, what peoples thoughts on when your good enough too lower the loft on your driver!!?? Was thinking off getting new driver but can i or am i good enough to play a 9 degree on instead of my usual 10.5 degree one!! I have always got the ball up in the air not a problem so this does not worry me but have heard that a 9 degree wont be as forgiving than a 10.5!!!??

thanks

Do you hit your drives too high? I recently changed from a 9.5 to a 10.5, the result is a slightly higher flight but similar distance (this will help me more in the winter when there is less roll on the fairways). Not all good players use a low lofted driver, Tiger had a 10 earlier this year, Luke Donald uses a 10 or 10.5. I would go try the same driver with both lofts and see what the figures say, thats what I did.

Loft on the driver has nothing to do with how good you are. It is all based on launch conditions, spin rate, angle of attack, etc. Go get fitted.

You're right, a 9 degree won't be as forgiving as a 10.5. You likely won't see a noticeable difference in ball flight or distance anyway. For majority of amateurs they will actually hit a higher lofted driver farther simply because they will hit it a little straighter.

I would stick with your 10.5 and if you're looking for more distance or whatever the case may be, go get fitted for the right shaft for your swing. You'll see more of a difference with the correct shaft than going down a degree or so in loft.

Keep in mind that just because you're improving, that doesn't necessarily mean you should lower your driver loft.
