Hey,

I'd just like some ideas for a decent wedge which is efficient in sand and for lob style shots. I currently use 46 PW out of the sand, opening the face quite substantially. I'd like to try a 60 but i'v heard there less easy to control out of bunkers. I feel most comfortable using PW and 7i around the green but I need a more lofted alternative for high/stop quick shots over bunkers or when there's a lack of green to work with, etc. Right now I just want the one wedge for both sand and shortish little role shots.

thanks for any replies!

what is reasonably priced if you are looking for quality look second hand i bought a good condition Taylormade TP satin 52* for £25 and i am sure you could get the standard sand wedge 56* for a similar price

I picked up a Nike SV Tour 54/12 in sig new on ebay about 4 weeks ago. First day out I hit 2 flagsticks from ~50 yds out. Today I hit another one but this time on a chip (which was good bc I hit it too hard lol). Its a perfect all around wedge. I also have a 60 but that gets hardly any play since the SV tour is like butter.

I feel like I overplay this wedge but its only because its so nice. Price is right too.

I'm not fond of the idea of second-hand wedges, it just strikes me that the grooves will already have seen their best days and you're left with just a pretty logo.

On advice of another TST poster, kleraudio (iirc?) I picked up a Hippo HWT wedge and love it. You can grab one new here for £35, free delivery.

I really can't complain about this club at all, but there's the obvious downside of not being able to try before you buy. Either way, good luck with the search~

You should be fine buying second hand as long as you get to have a look at it first to see if the grooves are worn out. People chop and change wedges all the time so there are plenty out there with grooves in great condition.

As far as what you should be looking for, make sure you consider the bounce of the wedge as well as the loft. There's plenty of info around on wedge bounce if you're not too sure about how it works - dunno if I could explain it well enough.

i read in a golf magazine article that unfinished wedges actually gain more spin as they age because the rust makes them have more bite

Rust does, yeah, as it acts sandpaper-y and adds to friction 'grabbing' the ball, but worn out grooves would probably (probably, this is a guess) overwhelm the rust and produce less spin and grip overall.

When you can get quality new wedges from a "not vokey" brand for your budget, my choice would be clear, but eh.

Hey,

I would go with a 54* or 56* wedge with little to moderate bounce and a sole grind that allows you to open the club up and hit your lob in, as well as

squaring up from 40yds and producing spin. What brand and model is up to you...
