I'm sure everyone on here has read the topics about how someone can hit a brand new driver or iron further and straighter than his/her old set of clubs. Do you think it has more to do with the new technology in the clubs or more to do with the player actually being fitted for something that fits his/her swing? Is it a mixture of both? You can read topics all over this place about how someone "hits my new driver 20 yards further than my old driver".

I'm just wondering if the crazy yardage gains would still be present for someone that went from a fitted 2 year old club to a brand new club, and if that isn't the case what all the craze over new clubs really is all about if the gains are so minute.

I was just wondering what everyone thinks.

In my case, I switched from a 4 year-old Nike titanium driver to my current Big Bertha (probably 2 years old at the time) and picked up about 20 yards instantly. I was given this club and it most certainly doesn't fit what I would normally purchase, so I'd say one vote for technology.

Is it that the new(er) driver hits the ball further or that it better fits your swing than your old driver? What most golfers "normally purchase" usually is nowhere near what they should purchase.

I don't think so... The new shaft feels like a noodle. The face is considerably hotter than the Nike was... While I doubt either is fit to my exact specs, I would reckon that they're equally misfit. I'm somewhat of a purist when it comes to custom fit equipment, and I can say with little hesitation that the new technology alone accounted for the difference in playability. The two models were roughly 3-4 years apart.
