So, my new irons showed up in the mail yesterday. Far better condition than advertised, and I love the feel of them. Set of supposedly used Nickent 3DX Hybrid Irons (The one with the graphite cavity back and the 10-iron) for eighty dollars. At first glance, seems like it was a good deal for just the pair of hybrids -- They're outstanding. The irons are almost like a free bonus, heh.

On the down side, I had begun hitting my original Slazenger Cheapos pretty well while the Nickents were in the mail. My first range session with the new clubs and it seemed like a pretty big step backward -- Pull hooks galore with the irons.

The hybrids, on the other hand... Amazingly easy to hit. Hitting the 4h as well or better than any club I've hit before.

SO... anyone have tips for getting adjusted to new clubs, or is it just a matter of hitting a billion range balls to get the difference in feel down? This is my first set after the cheapo starter-set that I'd purchased to see if I'd enjoy/stick with the game so I'm not quite sure how to adapt to subtle differences in the irons.

just stick with it, everyone has trouble getting used to new clubs... just cause their "better" clubs than your old ones, doesnt mean they're sprinkled with majic dust that miracously makes you hit better. And at your handicap(no offence) it might take a little while for the transition. Just practice and youll probably be hitting them how you want within 5-10 buckets.

That doesn't seem right -- I paid extra for the magic dust to be pre-sprinkled! Somebody's getting negative ebay feedback!

But yah, I figured there'd be a bit of a transition, just wondering if there were any particular tips on going about it.

Aside:

I took another Giant Bucket day this morning to work with the new clubs. Still loving the hybrids -- The things look shiny new to me. Advertised as 'good' with 'chipped paint'. I'm not seeing it, and I am totally on the Nickent Hybrid bandwagon.

Still working on hitting the irons clean -- When I do, it's pretty inspirational. *hah* They're much more sensitive than my Super Game Improvement Shovels were, but today I got back closer to being able to hit a fade/draw when I wanted.

I teed up one for my new five iron and just obliterated the thing. *laugh* Now, I fully recognize that it's more like a 3i. You can't really put a "5" on a 22* iron and magically pretend it's just a better 5i. It's a 22* iron.

Still, I have to confess it strokes the subconscious to see your 5-iron shot gracefully drift out of clear sight.

Lovin' the new sticks. 80 bucks was a steal.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
